Any thought on how long to have an effect?

Every time I add supplemental light, it takes about a month or two to kick start them. I'm usually getting my first eggs of the season in January/February.

Yeah I start giving supplemental light mid December and am filling the incubator usually the 2nd or 3rd week of the year.

I'm the oddball of the group ....I have 4 toms and can't get rid of any them lol. I swear, breeding season is going to get extremely interesting around here next spring....

I took a bunch of pictures of the Broody Bunch's baby today. Her coloring is really rather unique and I'm wondering if maybe Mister was dad? She looks semi penciled but with red... Sorry if some of the pictures seem redundant. I was trying to get different angles before she could get away from me.

I'd say mister was the dad if he is your only blue bird. Im pretty certain I see Dd and Rr in that bird

Hehehe try having like 10 extra toms.... I dont want to get rid of them. Never know if something will happen and a backup is required. Think I have 5 tricolor Tom's and I only need 2 decisions decisions

Broody Bunch Baby is sure an interesting color/ pattern.

Heat indexes still over 100 here. Not one bird in my flock....chicken or turkey....currently has any tail feathers. They are all a mess. Annie decided to display and she looked like a porcupine! Nothing but quills. Daisy still sits on my chair arm, but no touching allowed. They are all miserable.

Do any of you feed extra protein while they are growing out new feathers? If so...what?

I bump mine up to a broiler or starter feed 18/22% protein.

Well they are different pencil colors but I have too many of each color. 5 tricolor Tom's and I need 2, 3 pencil blue Tom's and I need 1. 5 royal Tom's and I need 2. Yeah it's like that for every variety. Lots of decisions to make about who is getting sold and going to freezer camp.
