A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Daisy came out of her pen this morning limping. Ahhh! 5 minutes later she was doing her morning jumping-jack's throughout the yard. Whew. And like an idiot....I was bending over her, no touching, asking her what happened to her leg....like I was expecting her to answer. She kept looking at me with that turkey side eye....

I wonder if they get stiff while they're going though molt? Sweet Pea was limping yesterday. Then that's when I noticed how bad she was molting and all the bald spots :/

New turkey hen is in the coop in the crate. She wants to be with the other birds soooo bad. One of my bossy hens thinks otherwise, lol. Lots of lady chest bumping going on. Her original flock was a free ranging flock and ended up missing from predators so she’s been alone for a while. Plus I had her in quarantine for a while so she’s excited to be with turkeys again.

The clock struck five....

Aurora...maybe they do get stiff. I just figured when she hopped off the roost she twisted her little ankle or something. I'm surprised they don't wrench their necks working through those quills. Poor Daisy...when I sit out there, she just stands & stares. Won't even let me touch her snood. But I talk to her & she listens. Maybe....who knows.

I have a few photos to share of my 8 older poults. I am growing them out until I can tell for sure which are females. Earlier on, I thought all my favorites were looking like boys. But now a few look female. And of course, there are a lot that still keep me guessing. Some of these are 3 months old and a couple are 4 months. The one for sure tom that I have heard gobble one time so far is a 4 Monther. (I named him Youngerberry since he looks similar to his father, the late Elderberry.)

What's really confusing me this time around is that a lot of them still have the female Mohawk feathers going up the back of their neck, but where the Mohawk ends, it looks like bald tom head skin.

This last one is the color I am working towards. I had two like this but the other one died on Monday. I hope some of Sugarberry's new babies turn out like this.

Still can’t figure out why my last two batches I’ve had just one get stuck hatching. Like, humidity over 80% but they still get part of the shell stuck on them. This one that just hatched I called Quasimodo because one part of the shell stuck on its back and was making its head bend downward. If it survives little Quasi will have a pet home lined up. Just odd with the humidity so high. Didn’t even open the lid.

Polarberry...no idea on the hatching. Wish I had some advise. But find it interesting you have a "pet" home for Quasi. It's great when folks realize what fun pets they can make!!

Finnie, Youngerberry is stunning! Love the name! Your flock is gorgeous. Love the colors! When are the Sugarberry babies due to hatch?

Just let the dogs out to run. 4:30 in the morning & it's so humid you can barely breathe. Sorry to whine...I'm just so over this weather. As I pass the turkey pen Daisy does that quiet little trill from her roost. Besides my first cup of coffee...that's the best thing about early mornings!!
