A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Oh geez! Sfgwife if I brought a goat home Annie would still be displaying & grumbling! Although, since shes covered in quills, she'd look more like a porcupine.
You might be surprised by Annie's reaction to a goat. One woman I know left her turkeys with a friend for the summer. When she got them back her hen would not have anything to do with her tom and was moping around. Apparently while on her stay at the friends, she "fell in love" with their goat.

It is a prey vs predator thing. Dogs are perceived as predators and goats are perceived as prey.

In October 2015 the county tried to burn us out by negligently starting a fire at the land fill. It was during a time of high winds. They came by and told everyone to evacuate. When they got to me, I refused to go and stayed and fought the fire. If I had left, I would have lost my house because I put out the fires that threatened my home.

Those that left had their animals go unattended for 4 days because it was that long before they allowed anyone back in. I was without power for two days and without my land line phone for a week. I had a generator running for awhile but ran out of gas. Of course I could not leave to get gas because they would not let anyone back in.

Me and my animals were fine other than some smoke inhalation. Others were not so fortunate. One neighbor locked all but one of their dogs in their basement and took the one with them. Their house burned completely including their dogs.
how horrible
that would be a tough call
stay and defend your animals and everything you have.. and risk your life
or evacuate and lose everything.. but be safe

Hope I never have to make that decision, and prayers for those who do

R2elk....that's a scary story. Watched a lot of the fire coverage this summer, it was heartbreaking. I don't know if I would have the guts to stay. I'd be the one evacuating with two turkeys in the passenger seat.

Lol! Ours live fine together. And poor annie and daisy! Ours are not that bad yet. The new dudes are welp new and we must show these stanky things our manhood. Doncha know. :). Ours mostly ignore each other unless there is a tasty treat everyone wants. Then it is game on for who can reach it the fastest lol! I have seen turks snatch treats out of the goats mouths and the goat look like hey what jus happened.

For our goats and turks there is only one dog here that they think is the predator and he is a small dog. Our med, large and xl can stay in with them all day and no one seems to care or even watch them. It is kinda comical that when tuck (the little dude) comes in it is an all our who can keel it first. But he is also always on the move in there. The other sniff round then will lay down. The turks try groom my wolfhound when he is layin down and the goats just go sniff him and are done.

My Turkey hens used to groom my avatar, then they'd pull a hair and she'd get up and go lay down somewhere else and of course they followed her. It was all ok as long as they didn't grab something attached. Then it was time to move. When she was done with it all she'd move to a new place and face them, when they started her way she'd raise her head and growl, if that didn't work she'd let out one or two barks and that ALWAYS worked. The hens would just go on their merry way and she would have peace. Only once did she ever try to bite a chicken and we think she thought it was trying to hurt me. I was transferring it from a crate to a shelter and lost hold of its wings and it went crazy. She snapped at it and got my hand, but didn't break the skin. After she licked my hand and sniffled a bit, she laid down eye level with the chicken and let out a really loud bark.

I have to get a picture of Sweet Pea. I thought that she was dealing with Cocci from all the rain until I went to get her. That poor girl is almost bald! I felt so bad picking her up! I brought her in to have some extra protien and keep Angelica company. Angelica is being treated for Cocci anyway. It was really rather chilly last night too...

Poor Sweet Pea! She has no tail left and both her sides, chest, and belly look this. I'm waiting for the wing feathers suddenly fall off!
