A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Love the colors! When are the Sugarberry babies due to hatch?
Thank you.

The Sugarberry babies are over three weeks old now! Some are hers and some are Swan's, but I have no idea which.

Mr fancy getting a chance to look spectacular with no older Tom's around lol

Wow! What gorgeous markings on those feathers!

Poor Sweet Pea! She has no tail left and both her sides, chest, and belly look this. I'm waiting for the wing feathers suddenly fall off!

Oh my goodness! That is the worst molt I've ever seen on any bird! Memphis is right, you gotta enter her in the molt contest.

Speaking of molting. It's funny to see them without tail feathers. Probably not as funny to them tho...

Still in Missouri. Heading home today. Was up here for our annual History Conference. It's always informative. (Yeah I'm that kind of nerd) Meanwhile, back at the coop, all birds have been misbehaving for their sitter. It's really the chickens that act like little jerks. However, Annie got upset over a pair of red tennis shoes and then over a red tee shirt. I keep telling not to wear red. She thought I was overstating the situation. Annie, already grumpy over her molt, proved me correct. Daisy doesnt care what someone wears. But Annie is sensitive to such things. Funny how different those two birds are. And my friends think I'm nuts when I discuss the difference in their personalities.

I do know them....so well, I can tell when they are ready to lay an egg. And their different moods. Still finding their behavior interesting. There is more to turkeys than a pile of pretty feathers. Sigh....I will admit I spend too much time with the girls. I spend a lot of time outside & usually they are "helping" me with chores. So we spend a lot of time together.

Well I FINALLY got around to processing the taterhead tom.
He was the one that would attack me unless he had high protein turkey feed ONLY.. no grass or weed seeds or berries or garden produce. So much for free ranging:he
He had buggered up his foot a couple of weeks ago and when it was hurting he left me alone. How often does the bird you need to get rid of is the one that gets hurt
I was taking him off the roost in the am and had hopes he would change .. when his foot was better he started up after me again. So I didn't help him and he injured it again :smack
I figured I better do it before he went into full molt... when I carried him he was as calm as could be and if his foot hadn't been bad I don't think I could have done him in. :hit

He was 2 1/2 yrs old and I miss him even though he ripped open my legs.
He was a nari, 20lbs dressed and those feathers coming in under the skin are a bear to get out:barnie

Sounds like you did the right thing Molpet. Tough tho.....

Back home. My whole molting grumpy flock was a huge pain for my sitter. Went & sat with them a bit. All were sweet as pie. Daisy was even trilling. Shes starting to grow a tail. It's really spotty this year. Quite nice. Annie is tailess right now.
