Pet Peeves

These $700K+ new builds where everything is white and gray and lifeless. Top that off with vinyl plank flooring instead of hardwood. Oh, and your neighbor is right on top of you with their new 3,000 sqft monstrosity. We're also in the middle of nowhere. Enjoy your 90 minute commute to work.

Edit: Also, if you're so motivated to sell, try taking more than 10 photos.

There's a development we drive by sometimes. All the (huge, 3 story) houses are white, grey, and almost-black-with-black-trim.

Really? Not even a bit of color with trim in red or green or cream or some other COLOR!?

Right? I know some people really like that aesthetic, but I need some warmth! And to not pay $700K, because holy cannoli. It's a house, not a spaceship. No one wants to build small anymore.

Kitchen knives that won't maintain an edge for more than a week really irritate me. And yes, I know how to properly sharpen and keep them honed. I'm starting the gradual process of replacing them all at this point.
Do they need to be more high-carbon to hold an edge longer? I can't remember. 🤔

I inherited a big house but guess what? It is like a black hole, it swallows things and then we can never find them when we need them, so we have to go buy new. I swear we must have at least eight hammers and four complete socket sets! 🙄 I dearly want a small house with nothing more in it than my most basic needs! I lived and traveled at one time in a covered wagon, and I miss those days!

I don't know a lot about this. I know, I know, shocking. :p Hardness plays a big factor in edge retention, but I don't know what types of steel specifically are better or worse from a metallurgical point of view. I do know that these inexpensive "ceramic" knives are pretty much done, and I have a new Chef's knife and a granton edge (scalloped) chef's knife coming tomorrow. Both are Mercer. They're nothing fancy, but I'd rather have a decent, practical "plain" knife in the 50 dollar range than spend a couple hundred for something fancy and artsy that's going to do the same job.
