A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I have BR, Nari, and black Toms and I have RP hens. How does one create a sweetgrass variety?
You can't with only those varieties available. With time and generations you can create Sweetgrass by breeding a Bronze tom with your Royal Palm hens. It would be even easier if you had a Black Wiinged Bronze to start with but would still take generations and the really difficult part would be determining which male offspring is pure Sweetgrass (not carrying the Narragansett gene (n)).

If a person can start with a Black Winged Bronze tom and Royal palm hens, the intermediate step is the Cornish Palm. Unfortunately, Cornish palms don't breed true or I would be into making Cornish palms and not Sweetgrass.

Well, come spring, I have to make some choices. I need to figure out what breeds I want to keep going forward. I lost my RP Tom and a Black Tom last week while I was out of town. Suspect coyote. As a result, we started forcing them into shelters at night. Last night one of my BR Toms managed to get his head out of the shelter by pushing the wire hard enough for the staples to pull, but then got stuck... Too tempting a target for the coons. Ok, no turkeys in that shelter going forward and spent the day fixing the wire. I've told myself a dozen times no more RPs... They have a hard time here, but they are wonderful eye candy. At one point, I was going to drop the blacks and RPs and just focus on Nari and BRs. I still have issues with the wilds flirting with my boys. What are your thoughts?

I vote narri ... why..... so i need an excuse to drive up there for poults. Hahahahahaha! But truly.... both are beautiful birds. I see br here occasionally that are lovely but very very rarely a narri. Which breeds are more rare where you live? Maybe that would help the decision. But for sellin the birds... if the rp sell for you better....

If i saw a sg trio or quad that are as beautiful as @R2elk has i would snag em up! But ii have only ever seen one other sg here sadly. For me i would love a herd of sg and slates but i have my mutty mix for now that we enjoy.

Did you catch that Rjohns?? Sfgwife & I are meeting at your house! Turkey party!!!

Still nice & warm. Unfortunately the storms are rolling in right at Trick or Treat time. Hate that. We have such cute little kids on our street....was looking forward to seeing them dressed up. One of them wanted me to dress Annie as a vampire. Thought that was a good suggestion! And Daisy would have made a fabulous peacock! One year I need to actually dress them up!!
