A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I just candled. All 5 turkey eggs show blood vessels at 1 week. Added 5 more.

Today I saw the second hen (out of 3) laying down for the tom. So I expect in the next week or so I will start to get more eggs. The first hen just seems to be laying 5 per week. It's weird. I've never known my past hens to skip days before.

I also added 9 mixed breed chicken eggs to the incubator. Some of them will be Spitz mixes. That should be interesting.

Not sure, but I think they are BBB?

On the Phenotypes and Genotypes page Porter is now listing Recessive Blue Narragansetts. he does not have a photo up yet. I wonder how long before he lists Recessive Blue Sweetgrass?
He sure does a lot of work with the varieties... I hope he has someone to carry it on, it would be a shame to lose all this knowledge

Went to a big swap in southern mo.
Took the car and limited cash. So as not to be tempted too much. If I took truck may have been full.

Bought a pure palm hen.

Got her home. And situated in a pen. While I was picking up eggs. Saw my bourbon hen get successfully mated. Then in my palm pen saw that tom mate 3 hens in about 45 min.

Set 9 turkey eggs In incubator tonight.

Got 5 turkey eggs today.

I’m having Christmas here. DH is concerned. I did tell him about all these birds, but I guess he never added them together? I dunno... Anyway, here are my very first four turkeys. They’re BBW. I got them from Runnings because after doing math (something I usually avoid), I realized the 15 heritage turkeys I ordered for next month won’t be ready for the holidays—or at least not for Thanksgiving.

And here are two of my four Buff geese (the other two are under the mama hen thing), which I got from Runnings the day before to warn the chickens about meanies in the sky.

And here are the 26 meaties I got in the mail the day before that... or at least the ones that didn’t run and hide from the scary camera.

And finally, here are the eggs I ordered to test out my new incubator.

I’m having so much FUN!!!

Incubating will make the math worse.

Came out of winter with no chickens. Now have 40 laying hens. After they are done going to just keep my brahmas.

Have 4 pens of turkeys now. 18 hens. Only gonna keep 5 after get all set I want in incubator. Set 141 chicken turkey and quail for ehal.
Set another 30 turkey brahma and pheasant tonight. Except for brahmas I have a home for all that hatch out of these.

So I failed at math too.
