A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

It is pretty common among toms especially if they have a fence to rub against. @duluthralphie recently posted a pic of his bare beer bellied Blue Slate tom.

It is always better for the health of the hens to have multiple hens for one tom. I try to keep a minimum of 4 to 5 hens for a tom.

I would have never thought of this! Thank you guys!

I think they lose most of their feathers on fences I think..

It is like they look for a fence. So they can stare through it and fight..

Of course, some of the objects of their lust are not cute feathered females. Many of these objects can grab and pull out feathers too.. Toms are so stupid I think they would mount a porcupine if it held still.

That’s why I asked here. Thanks again! My toms have a large area to free range, so I haven’t had that problem... yet!

Yep I had fence runners that look like this. Especially if it's chicken wire

I’m glad to see it’s nothing more than stubbornness.

I'm still waiting for a video of the beer belly turkey running!!

X2!

Sometimes asparagus takes 3 years before you can harvest from it regularly. Our patch is 30 this year, so it's on the downward slide and needs dividing and replanting badly.
It's not raised since we irrigate it from the ditch in summer there. It gets a scoop of corral cleaning in the fall that's tilled in and that's all. Asparagus is pretty drought tolerant if it grows here. That particular patch has been mostly ignored for the last ten years except for harvest.

Yea i know it is a few years before you harvest. But it has come up....

My asparagus patch is well over 20 years old. I have already had two pickings from it this spring. I had to share the last picking because it was just too much for me to eat by myself. After this cold spell, I expect to have more to harvest tomorrow.

I now have two patches because I hauled "soil" from the garden to the "yard" when I was planting roses there. The roses didn't make it but the asparagus came up from seeds that were in the garden "soil" and established itself very well. I just have to be careful in the spring that I don't mow it off.

I dont like you either sir! Hahahaha. IF i even find a place that it likes here the guys will eat it right out the garden before i can bring it in.... i will just blame it all on them. ;). It will be an old old bed before they get tired of eatin it.

My brother grew a patch of asparagus in town. He would notice the stalks coming up but when he went to pick it there was never any that was ready. He finally caught his daughter picking it and eating it raw. That was way back when she was just a little kid.
