A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

@ketojenn congrats on the new poult.
@Auroradream26 good looking bunch

Hatched my first good set of turkey eggs yesterday. 15 of 20 with 2 more pipped. Didn't make it to a sale last weekend so I set 7 dozen eggs in the incubator.

Had a penciled hen. Didnt like her body size. So sold her with a tom and 2 other hens this morning.

Rain is finally taking a break. Which is good. There is a lot of flooding still.

Beans and sweetcorn are starting poke up in the garden. If I can keep the wild rabbits (15 in pasture last night) outta garden the rest is looking good as well. So are the weeds after the rain.

Hi all :frow
In case you hadn’t noticed I’ve been lurking on this thread for a while. I have a pair of Royal Palm turkeys and a Bourbon Red hen to go with them. I’m finally getting some poults so I thought I’d share.
Just hatched:

What, according to Porters website, should be a red bronze tom and a golden narragansett hen:

And a week-old palm:

So i let the snake out this mornin before i let anyone else out. She and her poults went on the hunt after mama had a nice messy dust bath. Tom wanted a piece of her action but she changed his mind by beatin him up. I let her too cause he needs stay away from the poults. Maybe not the right things to do i dunno but i dont have separate quarters for him to be in. So now that that is done... he stays bout ten ft away and walks alongside them. He IS makin sure noone else in there gets near too. Anyone goes in their space and it is either him or mama shooin them away. I have checked on them frequently and everyone seems to be doin good and stayin close to mama and followin where she leads. It will be interesting to see where she wants bed down tonight though. I left my milk room where they have been stayin open for her to go to... time will tell.

My brother grew a patch of asparagus in town. He would notice the stalks coming up but when he went to pick it there was never any that was ready. He finally caught his daughter picking it and eating it raw. That was way back when she was just a little kid.

That is too funny! Sounds like the few that did come up last year for the second year here.

Feedman....got one word for you...Hasenpheffer! R2elk probably knows what that is!

SAFarm...nothing cuter than turkey poults! Congrats on the hatch!
I candled the turkey eggs last night and moved the fertile ones to the hatcher. As I expected someone wasn't doing his job. Eight out of 54 were fertile and got moved to the hatcher. I suspect that most of the ones left are going to be Tri-Color Mottleds.
