A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Yes, she’s panting a little... not so much now. I think she must have gone for a drink. I can’t let them out... they’re way up on stilts and the ground is soaking wet everywhere in that yard, ankle-deep most spots. But at least the snow is gone. It’s 62 degrees... very nice. :celebrate Only it kinda looks like rain... :hmm

Bantambird....totally blown away! Putting a turkey under is wild!! Your "team" did an incredible job! How interesting. Everytime we put a dog under I hold my breath...and things are so much better now than they were 30 years ago. So how did she react coming out?? How long did it take?? Gosh I sure hope she'll be ok. Everytime we put a dog under they throw coat. Wonder if she'll molt! Thanks a ton for the blow-by-blow & information. Again....what a great job!!
She was under for maybe a half hour of work, but we took it slow getting her under, set the gas at 3 for just long enough to set her half asleep then rolled it to 1.5 and to 1 for maintaining sedation. She took about 20 minutes because we did not want to overdo it and she did not have any barbiturate on board because Mom didn't feel comfortable with that, having only worked on mammals. She was a great surgeon and I'm glad to get the opportunity to use such facilities. Also, we aren't sure if she will decide to recover or not, she is drinking, but I have not seen her eat at all today and she pretty much just wants to hang out on the porch slightly ruffled. We couldn't retrieve the shell, so it may do her in. It was falling apart in there, though.

I'm in Missouri...hot & humid here too. Blah!
Wish Feedman would check in. He had some rough weather & flooding. Hope all is ok.
Got a text from my turkey sitter. Girls spending time in the wading pools under the yard fans. They are so spoiled. When she went to put them to bed yesterday she found them standing on my back porch. They were waiting to go on their evening stroll. Poor things....that's going to have to wait till I get home. But they are good for her. Followed her right to the coop & hopped in. Nice to know they are minding their manners when I'm away.
R2elk...heading to my sisters for bbq...brats & sauerkraut is on the menu. Just saying...

Thunder woke me an hour early. DH is visiting his son & fam on the west coast, so it wasn’t his fault this time. :p (I can’t go b/c no one to watch my mom. Or my menagerie, of course. :lau)

Ran out to tarp the meaties’ exposed tractor ends but it had been raining gently all night, it seems. They’re probably miffed now that I took away their fresh air & panoramic view. I guess it’s not gonna do much more, so I’ll undo what I done. After coffee. Thunder has stopped.

The seasonal pond wannabe on the neighboring land has tripled in size. The “creek” currently drawing down our lower pasture has spread out even more. Mallards are pleased... If it dries out enough later on :fl, I AM taking the backhoe down there and digging the bed deeper no matter what DH says. (He’s scared of the GGs*.) “Never invite the man into your life” is his motto. I wasn’t planning to beg permission, though... “Waters of the Americas” has been nixed by the current admin, so I figure I’m good. This never used to happen before the forest disservice’s mismanagement caused so many trees to die so suddenly from lack of husbandry. (And beetles)

(*GGs = govt goons :rant)

Everyone else is good. The geese don’t seem miffed their new yard is now even soggier. Neither do the other birdies. I guess I’m the only one unhappy about it. When I build on for turkeys, it’s def gonna be the uphill side that gets added on to.

My four lonely little surviving duck eggs are looking good. (Well, the others were non-starters.) Fiveish days to go. :fl I hope they’re not as insane as the geese turned out to be... Am I talking too much? Can you tell I’ve had coffee? :gig

Put several days in at work (9). Havent been on much or dealt with my birds. Quick feed for them and then usually out after I eat and shower.

Missed most of the severe weather. Did have some straight line wind that knocked over trees, lots of branches, and a large section of my turkey/chicken run. Flooding main highways to south, west. and east are closed til further notice. Most is from creek overflowing and a couple busted levees. Main river levees are holding but strained. Knock on wood but no moat at my castle yet.

On hatching nite I guess with power outages and surges my incubators must have run hot. Birds are hatching early. About 33 poults out that should have hatched tues.

Been working in my yard up here in Missouri. Boy do I miss my girls!! I'm so used to them hanging out with me in the yard. I'm almost lost with out their supervision! LOL! I even miss them going through my weed bucket. All reports from Memphis is that they are parked in front of fans & spending time cooling their toes in the wading pools. Turkey sitter is finding them by the gate in the evenings wanting to go for their walk. They have been rushing the gate when she opens it. I wonder sometimes...do they like their walks due to grazing or the socialization? They sure enjoy the attention from the neighbors.
