A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Hope your having fun with the pups Aurora!

The weatherdorks show us getting as much as 15" of rain in the next three days. I'm hoping they get this forecast wrong...which they mostly do....but with my luck they've nailed it.

You have way better luck than me.. if they said we were to get 15 inches of rain, I would be in the little area that got 30 inches of rain...

The kayak turkey should have hatched eggs a couple days ago. We had put over a dozen eggs in her kayak, when we candle and took the bad eggs away.

There were only 2 eggs in the kayak. No shells and no sign of chicks..

Nothing could get up there except another turkey or chicken.

Very disappointing.

My hatch in the incubator was just as bad. Over 3dozen eggs not one hatched. I have something bad going on. They were not all my eggs. I had gotten some from Mnchickmom (toad eggs).

I am guessing it is either a bacteria (doubtful) because of the way I disinfect everything, or the thermostat is screwing up. I never see the temp on the high side though.

I just have a cheap thermostat in it. I am going to change it for the expensive one @R2elk recommended a few years ago. I bought it but did not use yet. I was slightly intimidated to put it in.

I will have to figure it out now. I have a half a dozen toad eggs and am going to put them in a foamie to see if I can hatch anything anymore.

Next post turkey stuff.

Last track on Barry suggests it will travel west of us, so hoping to miss the rain.

Now for a true turkey post..

I have a half dozen turkeys in the pen with Tweety and his flock. They are around 3 months (turkey teens).

I have not spent any time with them. Late yesterday afternoon I decided to give them treats for the first time.

I have an old stacking chair I use when I sit in a pen with the birds. I put that in the pen and locked the door then went to get the grain. The young turkeys were circling the chair when I came back. There were clicks and whistles, the heads were cocked sideways. One would take a step towards it then jump back. This caused them all to run for the corners.

I went in and sat offering a handful of grain. The circling, walking and hoots, whistles and clicks continued.

They would stop and stare at me, the chair and the grain. I put some on the floor and the chicks went for it. Not the turkeys. The continued to do the inspection. You could see they did not trust me.

I spent about 20 minutes sitting with them offering them grain. The whole time they did turkey antics.

I reached for my phone to record it but I had left it in the house. It reminded me again why I like turkeys more than chickens. I will try this again, but after a day of processing it, I doubt I will get the same reaction again.

@R2elk I am going to try to get some pictures of some weird patterns on a couple of these for you to hazard a guess as to what they are.

@memphis I hope all that rain misses you! I need to stop by TSC get some ag lime and sweet PDZ. My turkey run is a stinky, muddy swamp and I can't take it anymore, especially when I want to hang out with them and I just get splashed with nasty mud and they're all wearing it :/

@duluthralphie I'm sorry your hatches are bombing :( It's awful when that happens. I had a rough hatching year last year but I think it was humidity related. I dropped my humidity way down this year and had much better hatches.

Jake and Izzy go home today. They were good though they look a lot bigger here in our smaller house than they do at my parent's house! Both dogs are 90 some pounds. Jake is just big, Izzy is rather round lol. I think our cat, Monro, was actually happy to have them around. He likes dogs, hates cats.

@memphis, I didn't forget about the sewing pictures, just didn't get to it yet. I want to use my good camera to try to get a decent picture. I'll get to it though. Maybe later today since DH and DS are off playing with 3D printers today.

Ralphie....sorry about your hatches. That's a huge bummer. Glad to see your working on the poults. Just sitting with them is the best! Spent a few hours this morning sitting with mine & catching up on email. I had a breakthrough last evening. Was sitting in my chair with them before bedtime. Daisy was standing there and picked off a mosquito. The penciled observed this and about 15 minutes later she picked one off too!! So looks like they will continue Daisy's habit of being my best mosquito defense!
They are still doing the horizontal tail spread and no J poops yet. I KNOW it doesn't mean anything! It just gives me hope!!
Aurora....with all you've got going on I'm impressed you have time to sew! Much less taking pics! But am looking forward to them!
Ralph....cant wait to see you pics! Just love the " Guess the Variety " game!!!

The weather us hot and humid here in 90s.
Most main routes are still flooded out. But water us still going down. Got back in my house monday night. The recliner and I had a 5 hour nap/reunion.

The rain that is coming in from ts barry please keep to the south or east of Mo. Would like to dry down some more in my area.

Picked a good bunch if zuccini from the garden. Decided to make some bread. Made 2 loaves boy it was good. So decided to make more did 5 loaves. The time I was mixing it all up kept thinking I forgot something. Couldnt figure it out. Baked them up. Took a bite figured it out when I tasted it forgot the sugar. Knew some people that were sugar diabetics and gave them all of it. They thought it was delicious.
