A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Saw another of those smoking commercials featuring a turkey. I love 'em! Thank God I haven't installed the big screen in Daisy's coop yet. She'd have an issue with it being a computer generated bird and insist on auditioning for those commercials! Sadly, I'd let her! She could seriously nail it!! LOL!

I can safely and happily say I am NOT a morning person. Not in any way, shape or form. There ARE benefits to getting older. No school age kids (knock on wood) at home. No one - and especially including myself - that has to get up to go to work.

I've also gotten smarter and made auto feeders and waterers, so unless there is a PRESSING NEED, I don't have to go let birds out at the as*crack of dawn. They have learned long ago that my schedule outtrumps the sun.

I use cameras to keep track of most of the critters and finally have power to the chicken area. Heated tubs and waterers for the winter - and thankfully my "chicken barn" is as solid as old chestnut and oak timbers can be.

I am even debating the pros and cons of a heated duck pond for the DUCKS during the winter months. Pros - they would love it. Cons - the very real possibility of a huge glacier protruding from the run come Spring.

:ya

Even once the kids are out of school and off on their own, I'll still have to get up earlier than I want. The cons of being married to a morning person! Thankfully, he works second shift so he typically doesn't get up before 8. If he ever moves back to first shift I'm in trouble! He would drag me out of bed with him at 4:30 and be all happy about it (I would go right back to bed the second he left!).

I do fermented feed so I can't just leave it out for them but that doesn't mean I'm getting up at the crack of dawn to feed them and let them out! They can wait patiently until I've woken up and get out there. At least they get very excited to see me in the morning! I have extension cords run from the garage to the coops too so during the winter, the water is thawed them. It is a bit of a pain though with geese that insist that they need a bath :/ Thankfully, they can't really reach the water BOWLS, only the nipple waterer until I get out there. They're so funny watching them "swim" in the snow! I could very clearly see a giant glacier if there was a heated pond!

And I'm a morning person. Not that I want to be. Just is what it is I guess. On the flip side....I'm usually toast by 9 at night. The best thing about being an early bird is running the dogs before it gets too hot. I have spot lights out back and it's not beyond me to do a little training about 4:30 in the morning. Or housework. The lights hit the chicken coop so I get chickens in a bit of a stupor pouring out of the doorway. And there is Daisy softly trilling from the depths of her pen. She will not get out of bed that early! Lazy Daisy!

4:30! If I'm up on my own by 7, it's crazy! I can't imagine actually getting up by 4:30 and liking it! If it were up to DH, if be up by then, making a breakfast feast and getting all the chores done before everyone else is up. I think he's finally given up on that since I hate mornings AND cooking lol. I'm the total opposite of you. If I try to go to bed at 9, I will usually just toss and turn. I was up till midnight last night and still wasn't all that tired. Sewing till 11, shower, tea and reading till midnight. That's my perfect time of day where it's just me (and the cat). No kids bugging, DH at work, and I can do what I want to do. Perfect me time :)

I have no don't that Daisy could Ace it! Though she might have trouble if a lawnmower is involved!

Aurora....perfectly acceptable to vent! Heck I'm always venting about the weather. I'm spoiled when it comes to any tech...I just call the tech guy at work & he fixes it for me. Its rendered me hapless when trying to figure out any problem on my own.
Nothing worse than one of those days when nothing goes right. Makes me just want to crawl back into bed. Although a McFlurry & nice bath would help!!
I don’t want to understand my devices. I just want them to work. If something doesn’t work I fuss and fume at the #&%$@ thing and DH gets tired of listening to me curse the tech gods and takes over.

There then follows a flowing stream of cursing of tech gods that puts anything I could ever say about the SOBs to shame, but he does fix my problem so I just hug him and say thank you, you’re wonderful, darling. Until next time. If he weren’t here I really think I’d just say, “Oh well. The Internet was nice while it lasted.”

One of my goals in getting all these cool beasties was to force me to get up early. :lau I’ve always wanted to be a morning person for self-esteem’s sake, and now I feel I have to get up so the birdies can enjoy the cool morning hours (I draw the line at anything earlier than 6:30 most of the time) before it gets so hot they all retreat to their tractors. Poor birdies. So... it’s working out for me on that front. :)

I used to be a total night owl. Now I'm lucky to sleep past 6am. Years of getting kids up for school has me trained, plus my husband is a very early riser. He likes to be up by 5:30. It is nice getting chores done early. In summer it's nice and cool, in winter the wind hasn't started blowing yet.
I too was a night owl but over the years learned that there are benefits to being an early riser. Now I no longer have a choice as old man conditions make sleeping in impossible.

I go to bed after resetting my daily lows and highs at midnight. As an old man, I don't take naps, naps take me. I suddenly wake up and realize that I had a nap attack.

Nap attack! I like that R2elk! I too started life as a night owl. It's so peaceful early. I rather like it. Plus I have my best energy load in the mornings.
I remember....a hundred years ago...getting off work on a Friday evening, loading dogs & driving 12 hours through the night to be at a stock trial in Weatherford TX by 7 the next morning. Solo, with NO CELL PHONE!! Now I panic if I'm 2 blocks from the house and don't have it!! Sure couldn't do that these days....much less with out a cell phone!
