Notice how much bigger his wattle is than hers. He is much redder but it is the whole head, not in patches. Side by side he is bigger and has heavier legs than she has.

Just because your Tri-Color Mottled Black is bigger than your Penciled poult does not mean that it is a male. Its is not uncommon for the Mottleds to be bigger than Palms. I had a Mottled Slate hen that was every bit as big as the Slate jakes while they were growing up. They did not get bigger than until they were 6 months old. Palms tend to be smaller than other varieties at all stages.

But I do have a question. When my sister bought these eggs, the seller said there may be a blue slate egg or two mixed in. One of the eggs even had a gray feather attached (and I saved it). What are the chances that one of these could be a blue slate? Cause I swear at least one of these has some gray down feathers. I thought the blue slates came as poults from light gray to black - but maybe not? This one sure looks more yellow than gray to me.

Edited to add: The last pic is an enlargement of a stock photo of blue slates found online.

The last picture is a Self Blue (aka Lavender). You can see the white face mask associated with the black color gene.

The three that you have hatched are white and are not slates.
