A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Guys I'm just devastated! Those Turkey eggs were viable, hatching last night and this morning they've completely vanished! Not a piece of shell nor poult left! Whatever it was also took the other eggs which were also hatching.
Sorry. It happens. I had a Wild turkey sitting on a nest with my Bourbon Red hen. I knew that there were poults hatched and eggs still to be hatched when I checked on them in the evening. The next morning the Bourbon Red hen was in the run and the Wild hen was down in the field. The nest was completely gone but there was a coon track in nearby wet soil.

The other likely culprit is a skunk or if you live where there are opossums, that is another possibility. I left the skunks alone until they started taking eggs right out from under my setting hens. They no longer get a free pass here.

I brought up the blacks a little, Memphis. Does this look close? Your little girl looks like a delicate ballerina. So sweet!

The skunks disappear eggs and poultry alike, they leave no trace

Thanks Cindy! Iris is a girlie girl! The mottled seems like a guy to me. Hoping to get some good pics to send to the breeder today. I'm so used to living with hens...I think that made it easier for me to identify Iris as a hen. But heck....she's always looked like a girl to me! Plus, I keep catching her & Daisy talking hen talk! You know....discussing pedicures, tail feather maintenance & how to get the most out of a dust bath spa. The mottled never showed interest in such things! Daisy also taught her how to walk like a hen...with that cute little tail sway. My God....I'm spending way too much time with these birds! If I had a hen hatch a bunch of babies I be in trouble!! As impressive as the toms are...I'm still hoping for a hen.

@memphis i can't wait to see more pictures :)

Today is swap day. Wish me luck! I'm taking two young toms along. One is semi penciled but the other is completely penciled. The penciled guy has a twin brother who is much more social so that guy won the right to stay here a bit longer and give me a few more babies in the spring. Another, bigger, semi penciled but is also starting but not for a good of a reason ...... Someone has to be the guest of honor for Thanksgiving...

I'm also taking something like 35 chickens, most of which are cockerels. I have a feeling that I'll just be filling the freezer with them later but if the hens and turkeys all go, I'll be happy :)
