A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

They look good! Nice job! Were they both from this spring or were they older? Where do you get your big bags at? Does Wal-Mart carry those things? We need some! lol

I'll have to let you all know how ours turns out. He looks like he'll be a decent size so here's hoping!
Ordered the bags on ebay 50 of em for $59... 16x28? Very happy with the bags, I bought a turkey fryer to scald them and shrink the bags... happy with the pot not so happy with the burner. It kept shutting off. Grrr we did get it done.... lol

These boys were April hatch from this year.... the one may have been from our 1/2 bbw girl.....so 1/4? Bb? That is what we are trying to produce with our breeding program, the biggest black heritage turkeys we can.

I think it’s the wind. I got one of those also, and though I’ve experienced it before, didn’t anticipate the problem. I stacked cement blocks and rocks around it high enough to block most of the wind. It helped some... :rantVery irritating. How long do you brine your turkey for? Mine is BBW, 38lbs.

Do you remove the wings and just leave the drumsticks on? That would make it so much easier!!

Romeo looks good!! Glad he's back!!

Alicia...those birds look great! Good job!

Karenerwin....hows the processing going?

I'm either getting better at it or he was just super easy! I didn't even have to scald him to get him plucked! :wee

Oops! Sorry, Alicia! I got your post and @OneMountainAcres conflated. Aurora, how long do you brine your turkeys?

This was actually the first time I've ever done it. I just found shine instructions online and did it for 4 hours before bagging and tossing in the fridge.

I dry plucked this year for the first time too. I did have to scald the wing tips and break out the vice grips for the last few feathers on the wings lol.

Our Thanksgiving bird. I just used an oven bag for him :)
