A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Where did you get yours?
When I got it at the end of the season, it was under$100

The turkeys arrived this morning. 15 of them.. no extras. I almost forgot to post an update. They are drinking well. I just put a baby chicken in with them to show them the ropes. The chick hasnt been out of the house since it came out of the incubator so no worries about blackhead there. Now to fix them a place that will be impenetrable to blackhead when they grow up. Im worried sick.

My concerns are: will pack rock even pack if there is barrier fabric? No, so that isn't going to work together.

If I lay the barrier fabric, eventually the turkey manure will accumulate and turn into soil making the barrier fabric moot.

I am stressing out majorly. :(

So would agricultural lime topped with the pack gravel work?

The run is very rocky and well draining. Any turkey manure that accumulates will likely run off with the rain. I think I will surround the run with a smaller guage wire to hold in the rock or gravel (current wire is 2x4"). That will allow plenty of drainage with rain.

Thoughts on that?

I called the farm supply store and they recommended hydrated lime to kill worm eggs and parasites. It is very caustic but I will be using it under the gravel or rock so the turkeys won't get to it.

Another question: should I treat the roosts and walls of the coop or just the ground?
