Hello,

I am glad to be joining this forum all across the world - from Croatia. 🇭🇷🐥

In my personal experience, I might say that I am really new to chickens, but my family owned ducks, goose and chick their whole life, I am living on a village. I started by buying an incubator and hatching my own. Really hard to maintain but you learn a lot of it with their first steps - it's like having a newborn.

Right now I own around 17 big chickens with 1 rooster and 43 small chicks from 1,5 month to 7 days. I also own 25 broiler chicks for meat.

I have silkies, some traditional protected Croatian crested breeds - you can see some on my profile picture, Australorps and many other.

MY favourite thing about backyard chickens is watching them grow, eat, changing their behaviour due to ambience and their unique beauty.

I am actually an artist, got a title of industrial designer but I really thrive around garden and farm animals. I love seeing their happy faces around me. I used to have two lambs in the living room that mama sheep denied to raise and I fed them with formula to their full grown era.

I also own a dog - I adopted it from the streets, he is a breed of Border Collie and 2 other kinds, at my grandma's place we also own a Croatian Sheppard to protect the house. Even if I own cats, I am not really a big fan of them because they mess with my chickens.

I found BYC on Facebook while searching for a group where people discuss common issues while raising baby chicks. Later on, I found this amazing forum that resolved my bigger issues.
