A chick with mom...

So my broody hatched a chick yesterday.
I've put out medicated chick starter and water.
Momma will show the baby how to eat, right?
Right now they're just sitting in the nest.

Yep...mama will take baby out to eat. No worries, the baby will be fine for three days. Just watch them and make sure baby is coming out to eat tomorrow.

I was already down there trying to shove the baby's beak in the water.
Over-protective father that I am.
I'll relax.

I did that too. I was worried that the chicks needed water. Boy, my broody mom just made a distinct sound and taught them to eat when she made it.

She would take food, break it up and drop it on the ground for them.

That's exactly what my broody is doing!
At first I thought she was just excited to be eating.
Then I realized, that was the chick's cue to eat.
Very cool.
