A Dangerous Topic - the new health care plan

Ok Lately I have heard a lot of up roar here about how horrible "Obama's Health Plan" is. (It Obama's mind you even though many people wrote it) I decided that I would go ahead and read some of it, and frankly, this is just my opinion, it sounds really good. The News makes it sound bad sometimes but frankly what doesn't the news make sound bad?

"(b) Minimum Services To Be Covered- The items and services described in this subsection are the following:

(1) Hospitalization.

(2) Outpatient hospital and outpatient clinic services, including emergency department services.

(3) Professional services of physicians and other health professionals.

(4) Such services, equipment, and supplies incident to the services of a physician’s or a health professional’s delivery of care in institutional settings, physician offices, patients’ homes or place of residence, or other settings, as appropriate.

(5) Prescription drugs.

(6) Rehabilitative and habilitative services.

(7) Mental health and substance use disorder services.

(8) Preventive services, including those services recommended with a grade of A or B by the Task Force on Clinical Preventive Services and those vaccines recommended for use by the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

(9) Maternity care.

(10) Well baby and well child care and oral health, vision, and hearing services, equipment, and supplies at least for children under 21 years of age."

I'm kind of curious what is wrong with the bill. However I would like to make another requirement before people post questionable information: YOU MUST HAVE A LINK SITING YOUR INFORMATION! I only say this because earlier today a man told me that the new plan stated that it would only cover 2 children. If you had a third you would either lose your health care, have no health care for it, or be forced to abort it. This really upset so I asked to see his source (he claimed he could prove it) only to eventually get told a story about how he deleted the e-mail a week ago and had no idea where to find it in the bill.

Videos are welcome sources of information.

Hopefully this thread will remain open a while before the mighty ones shut it down.

I know talking politics is dangerous but this stuff is confuzing and its always good to know where other people are coming from. Please post your opinions and reasons on the new Plan and PLEASE KEEP IT CIVIL!

The thing is, you can find anything on the internet. Groups can take an idea, take it out of context, and make it fit whatever they want it to.

A large part of the problem in our current system is people pay preimums and they when they actually need to use the coverage they've paid in for, they get denied.

In this case I'm going to suggest that there are people upset over the election who admit to praying for the government to fail, and these same people are the ones screaming loudest about the healthcare bill.

So who is going to pay for the plan? We all are.

Hospitals will close, because they won't be able to stay open with the pay scale that Obama want to pay doctors and practitioners.

Medicare/Medicaid prices which are about half of what is billed out. If I bill out a patient for two hundred dollars then I will be lucky to receive one hundred dollars. Lucky.
That may seem like alot, but when the overhead and taxes are taken into consideration, it isn't. Believe me, I live this and know.
People always think that people in the medical field make bank. But the equipment, pay for staff, advertising, building, supplies, taxes are very very expensive. We have so many different taxes for each month, quarter, yearly it is crazy. Top it all off with Malpractice (which is off the wall high for something that you never use but have to have to cover your butt) For at least five years you lose money. And you work your hiney off. Long hours ( twelve hour days) seeing patients, charting, calling in prescriptions. On call. Student loans.
What we see is that to be able to stay open, we will have to see more patients and spend less time with each one so that we can see more. Quality will diminish. Personal one on one which we give will diminish. It will be a run them through, get em done operation.
There will be less practices open and less options for health care.

I am so mixed on this issue. On one hand, the 20 million or so Americans who want, and need healthcare coverage but who don’t qualify under the current system; I don’t want to see them shoved under the bus. I agree something needs to happen for them.

Then on the other hand, I have first hand experience with government healthcare. First, I am a veteran of a foreign war, so I have VA benefits. All I will say is I have exercised these benefits one time. Also, with my job, a large percentage of my business comes from Medicare and Medicaid. If you have any dealings with Medicare, or 3 party billing, you know that it is not a smooth running system (and I am being very nice). My point is, knowing what I know first hand about how the government currently runs their current health care systems; I can only conclude that the government is simply not capable of effectively running a health care system. Some might argue that they have even hurt medical profession. Just like anything else the government butts it's self into; they are rarley efficient, and next to never as good as the private sector. And this is not even pointing out that on a large scale, socialized medicine has never worked.

There is no doubt that our healthcare system needs an overhaul, and I would suggest that step one would be for the government to take a step out, not put themselves deeper into it. Just my quick thoughts.

I know thats a BIG problem with State Health Ins. ALOT of doctors wont even take it because they dont get paid and they have to jump through hoops.

Not to mention that every Catholic and religious hospital will close because they will not be forced to perform abortions.

I am going way out on a limb here... but why does everyone deserve healthcare... when did it become a free right??? Why do we think we deserve something we don't have to pay for???

We will all be paying for this through the nose. Socialized medicine has not worked in any country it has ever been adopted in. People from those countries COME HERE for health care.

Think of your local Dept of motor vehicles and your long lines. Now pretend it is a Dr.s office. That is what it is going to be like only way worse!!!

My government controls my healthcare.

As a person whose income is so low, I get my healthcare premiums paid, yet I get the same healthcare as the rich people on the other side of the city.

I don't have to think about whether I can afford to go to the doctor. I just go.

I go to the front of the line if I am sick or injured enough, not because I am rich enough.

The healthcare here used to be controlled by private insurance companies like the US. A man named Tommy Douglas changed all that. Who is Tommy Douglas? He is the father of Universal Healthcare in Canada, he is also Kiefer Sutherland's grandfather.

Following is what we pay per month for our medical here in BC.

$54 for one person
$96 for a family of two
$108 for a family of three or more

There is a premium assistance programme that is based on income and will cover up to 100% of the monthly premium.

That's it. No copay. No pre-approval. No worrying about pre-existing conditions.

It's all covered.
