a dog attacked our chickens

This picture is a very swollen oil gland at the base of the tail. The second picture is a normal sized oil gland.

I think the oil gland is gone but not 100 per cent sure. I did amputate the hanging tail. It bled but I was able to stop the bleeding. She pecked it later in her grooming, and it bled gain, but thankfully stopped. We have given her some sister time with the other hens and they seem to just accept her without picking on her. If she doesn't have her oil gland, I think there are some concerns regarding that. If you want to weigh in on what I should watch for or be alert for, please do.
 
I can’t add anything or any knowledge about her missing her oil (preen) gland. It is mostly for keeping the feathers in good condition, and there is some involvement with vitamin D3 levels, and the pressence of a preen gland. It should not affect her life very much to not have one. Glad that she has come through the tail amputation with any problems. Keep us up to date on how she is doing.
