A dog killed all my chicken last night

I am very sorry. I cannot imagine how you must feel. They feel like family after a while and it is so hard. Your flock is beautiful, I named my Dog Daisy May and when she died I named one of my chickens Daisy.

I am so sorry. I was crying while reading your post. I recently lost 23 of my beautiful birds to a lesser weasel who snuck in through and old rat hole. And my coop is like Fort Knox!
It has been devastating for me. Some of my birds were over 8 years old and all of them were part of our family. 9 were only a month old. They were all A huge part of my life-- everyday. I know your pain and am so sorry that you had to go down to your coop and meet the animal that changed your world. I on the other hand , have not been able to get justice for the death of my feathered friends and it eats at me every day. Traps are worthless against this kind of predator.
My husband and son did surprise me with a young chicken recently. (Actually for X-mas)They found her in the paper. Her name is Comet and she has helped me to start healing.
I have my rooster Pepper, but he is more like a dog then a bird.
I sit here crying, knowing how hard it must be for you. Thank you for sharing pictures of your wonderful birds. Just remember. "Time Heals" and as the spring flowers bloom, your birds will be a part of everything that is new this spring.
My thoughts are with you.

I am moving on with the grieving process, but still have real bad days. I lost my 26 year old horse, my 16 year old Jack russell, my 13 year old neice and all of my birds all in 2 years. Some days I can't wait to get to the pearly gates just to see them all again.
But I have animals and humans here who need me! They would starve or go without clean underwear if I did not stay! hee hee

Theresa, I just joined this site and I am sorry your loss. I too just lost 4 of my 5 chickens, between Thanksgiving and Dec 12th, starting with my rooster who had just shown up one day a couple months before. I don't even know what predator got them, I would come home from work and have one less.

You're right, they are all waiting there at Rainbow Bridge for you.
God bless you. :aww

Glad you at least caught the culprit.

There's a woman who walks her Springer spaniel around here without a leash, and it's gotten into our chickens three times. The first time I was very understanding - that's just the nature of bird dogs, and you have to expect some losses with free-ranging poultry. The second time I said she needed to keep her dog on a leash in this part of the neighborhood. After the third time, I started keeping a rifle by the door.

Very sorry about your terrible loss. Those chickens look very nice. I hope the pitbull soon pay the price.
