A FALCONRY THREAD!!!

More cool raptors! I just wanted to take some time to show you the Bornean Falconet (also know as the white fronted falconet) and the Andean Condor.

This guy is the and condor, the biggest bird in the world today! I am baffled by the fact that vultures and condors are considered birds of prey, as they are scavengers not hunters.

This one may look like a sparrow or a finch, but this is the Bornean Falconet! It is the smallest raptor in the world!! Cute little assassins, lol.......

Just another raptor post!

I saw one of the most amazing things I have EVER seen today.

I was at the beach with my dog, and an OSPERY, a FREAKING (excuse me) OSPREY flew right over me!! I was beyond words (well I admit I said a couple WORDS I am not proud of, the kind of words you might hear in a border-line PG movie), it was spectacular!! Not only did it fly right over me, it circled for a few minutes right over my head! She only left the strip of sky above me to mute and then just kept on circling over my star struck eyes. I watched it until it took off, and I got one final glance at it before it disappeared beyond my sight. I stood there for several minutes, starring at the sky as if it were still there, in shear awe. Then continued on my way with a look that suggested I had been brainwashed. My dog was clueless to the natural wonder that had just graced my life, and probably wondered why my attention had suddenly been diverted from him. YOGI, sigh.....

I am this hyped because I have never witnessed the grace of an osprey in real life, though I have long marveled and envied their fishing skills and graceful yet robust ways. They are so elegant, and yet nothing about them is delicate. They are not an everyday kinda thing where I live, so it just made me feel special I guess.

EXQUISITE, EXQUISITE, EXQUISITE,

This is kinda what it looked like, but in real life it was much more fantastical. The patterns on the osprey I saw were thinner, and yet even more defined. Like the text of a book, or a professional piece of Chinese calligraphy. Also, the osprey I saw was carrying something I could not make out. Perhaps the lifeless body of a fish? It was thick, and I think that she was grasping it with both talons, but most of it was supported by one talon.

I would have marveled at any osprey, but seeing one in my community within five miles of my very own abode was an experience I will find hard to forget!!

Here is a video of one fishing, a video I have seen many times over. :)

I would apologize for my excitement again, but I feel no remorse at all. I am sharing my honest feelings towards this spectacular encounter! No shame, nada. period.

Great thread topic!

I haven't done falconry but I work with raptors, trainning rehabbed birds for education purposes. My avatar is a young barn owl who is coming along fantastically. :)

Wow how fascinating, out of curiosity do you need a license to do that? I am just curious because I don't know much about working with raptors in ways besides falconry. What state do you live in? I am not sure if there are licenses other that falconry (in the field of raptors) where I live, and I know that you need a license to work with raptors here so I would be curious. :)

This one goes out to SPOTTED OWLS! Yay!!

I think that they are one of the most elegant owl species, but there are a whole lot of elegant owls! :)

I have the privilege of living close to a redwood forest they enjoy to inhabit, and though I have never seen one I await the day that I might become lucky enough to!

Just a beautiful bird that deserves a spot in this thread! :)
