A few incubator set up questions....

Nah, don't give up on it. As bad as we may talk about the LG there's plenty of birds hatched in them...just gotta be more attentive to it. If you wanted to go to a Hovabator the 1602N uses a ether-filled wafer thermostat, this type of thermostat has hatched probably millions of birds through the years...the 1602N runs around $50 plus shipping. But, still, if you watch your LG closely, add a large dial/knob to the thermostat stem, and keep it in a room with a good, constant temperature (important for any incubator) then I think you'll be ok.

Hang in there, and remember...this is supposed to be fun.

NO don't cancel just heed the warning people tell you. All is good!

Cloverleaf: yes much better on the correction LOL! I thought that was what you meant! LOL

Well, thank you all for taking me under your wings. These eggs are really important to me. Question to the group, would it be more beneficial to get the Hovabator for $50 to insure a better hatch? If so, I will make that investment for these chicks. If you all say that is the case, who is best to buy from to get quick shipment and would it then be okay to transfer eggs from incubator to the next if the eggs beat the incubator?? This is starting to sound like a who came first, the chicken or the egg story...... Anyway, I just want these eggs to have every chance in the world, am not wealthy, but have invested a lot of money in them. I am so grateful to all of you. I love chickens.....and chicks...

I bought my hovabators from www.gqfmfg.com it took a couple of days for them to process the order before they shipped, and they only offer ground shipping, so you can expect a week and a half or so total, but gqf is who makes the hovabator. Maybe someone else will know of a supplier that ships faster...

If you are going to continue to incubate, it is definitely worth the extra $$, unfortunately, most people will tell you not to invest much $$ in expensive eggs until after you've incubated at least a few times, to make sure you've got the kinks worked out of your "process".

If they are worth that much, I would definitely get the Hova.

Will my egg turner work in the Hovabator? I have incubated several times before in the LG and did fine.... didn't know any better

. I've just been waiting for these particular eggs for a while. Thanks again.

If you've *already* got some experience hatching with the LG and did fine, well as Gomer Pyle would say "Shazam, shazam, shazam go ahead and use the LG!". You've got experience with it apparently. If your other hatches when well then those eggs that you have coming should do about as well. Shipping conditions, etc., come into play naturally. Since you're accustomed to working with the LG I wouldn't sweat getting another incubator unless you wanted to bump to something like the Genesis. Of course if the LG takes a lot of your time to tend to it, the Hovabator 1602N might be a bit more stable in regards to temp and humidity and thus might be worth the $ to free up some time/ lessen anxiety levels.

FWIW,

Hey, thanks for the reply. I do fool with the LG more than I would care to. I think my last hatch I had about 70% or so hatch. I am just trying to increase my odds this time around. What Genesis model do you like? Shazam!! I love it!! Thanks again. You know, I look at it this way, if I can have a better hatch rate, even though I am investing in these eggs for breeding stock, I would save not only the precious chicks but money in the long run. I guess the more I read, the more confused I am !

Okay, after driving myself insane over this incubator question, I have decided to just use my LG with the new fan installed. I will get the thermometer, etc., tomorrow and get it running by tomorrow night to begin regulating the temperature and humidity before my eggs come. I have it set up in one of my bedrooms that has curtains and a door, so the temperature in the room should remain fairly regulated. If any of you all have any advice or threads you could share to help me with this hatch, I would really appreciate it. I am going to go forward in faith!!! And thank you all for helping me.

. I am hoping to get the eggs this week.

Oh, go for it then! I'm sorry, I was under the impression that you hadn't used it before...if you've had some good hatches, stick with it. Just remember that with a fan, you'll want to run your temps a little cooler, like around 99.5. Good luck!!!
