A few say they think these two are roosters. Do you agree?

her rounded saddle feathers are indicative of HEN.

She should lay for you soon, i would think.... They say the wattles will get red and big a week prior to laying. I would say she is close!!!

I think you are going to love the camera. I take most of my photos in RAW. I find it easier to make changes to exposure and other settings while viewing them on the computer. And shooting in RAW gives a lot more
options when editing. I shoot in the M mode, and just try to find the right ISO, and keep the fstop as low a number as possible. You are already taking good shots. Is that a BO hen? And the chicks in the background look
a lot like my two that I think are NHR.

Thanks for the info about the pointy things on the legs. The don't seem to be growing that fast, so I guess they are not spurs.

Yes that is my big ole roo, he is a BO. Lil pullets in the back are production reds, which are hatchery version of RIR. I believe yours may be NHR. They are beauts! That one you took a pic of should be laying eggs at thanksgiving!!!! lol... ( kidding... but she is close)

TY for the advise on RAW, and M and editing ( AND ANY other advise you wish to give on that set up... it was a bit pricey for me, but something I have been wishing for, for a very very long time- years in fact). I did a lot of research and a lot of info concurred with your opinions and advise. So... here is one I am most proud of... altho i have NO idea how I took it. I was playing around with settings by this point and with a 55-250mm lens.

(apologies for hijacking the thread from gender to photography, but was overjoyed to see your photography on here again, so close to the purchase of my own equip!!!!)

No problem twister. I really like your BO's. They were my first choice of chickens when I started thinking about getting a flock. My two reds were sold to me as BO's, but I am very happy with them as they are.
Maybe this spring I will get me some BO's. No roosters for me though. Shoot, I am not even supposed to have any chicks at all.

I have the same lens as you and it is the lens I use most often. The pick of your terrier has a real nice depth of field. I love how the focus shifts from the wild greens being clear and the shovel and fence out of focus.
I think the second pick would look a little better with less exposure. Play around with RAW images in the Digital Photo Professional software that came with your camera. It makes editing exposure and various settings
a breeze. And then it converts to jpg and resizes so easy.

Maybe we should start a thread with pics specific to the xsi.
