A Frame Pallet Wood Project

I really like hoop coops but we just can't physically get the cattle panel home. We have a Durango and a car. I looked to see if there was a delivery option but I couldn't find that. Renting a truck would ad a lot of cost to the project.

Yes, we went to the trouble of repairing the old Tundra because we didn't want to not have a truck with a bed available.

I am amazed at how well your floor came out for someone with limited building skills! What dimensions did it end up?

I saw somewhere before someone who used whole pallets as sides, and just filled in the empty spaces with extra slats. Not sure how many you have, but there’s a bunch of pallet coop & runs in the coop section of BYC! Good luck!
Thank you but we just got lucky that pallet came that way! It's roughly 4'6" x 3'6"

We think this will be a nice shady location to put a single slope roof coop and run. Side window in shed is 2ft wide. I'm thinking of putting my nesting boxes in there so I don't have to go into the woods to gather the eggs. So the tall part of the slope will go up against the shed with nesting boxes. Front panel will have a door for clean out. That's where our brain storming has gone today.

The spot I was going to put them is sunny most of the day and probably better suited for the garden.

Edit: nesting boxes on porch of the shed?

The base for a floor is only half as big as it needs to be for 8 chickens. My suggestion is use part of the shed for storage and part of it for a coop by dividing it in the middle inside.
There will also be a run that will be a minimum of 4'6" x 8' but I am leaning towards 12' long. Does the building still need to be that large for night time safety?

For the run is that including the underside of the coop space or no? For 8 birds you're looking at a minimum of 80 sq ft (I'd strongly suggest going no smaller than 100, even if they're all bantams).

And there may be times where it becomes necessary to lock the birds inside, rare though it may be. So both coop and run should be scaled up.

Thank you for your reply. That wasn't including under the coop but they will have access to the area under the coop as well. We also plan to allow free range in our fenced yard but have reservations since bird flu is an issue at this time. When I looked yesterday there wasn't anything in the state but I would rather be safe than sorry.

Makes sense, my flock is currently confined to their run as well. Times like these are why having an adequate run and coop space are important, because you never know when something might come up that takes free ranging out of the equation.
