Did you use Poly-Vi-Sol

with or without iron?

Thank you so much for posting this. I had a 2-3 week old chick that developed this, and we had no idea what was happening. I read you article and we put together a recipe of 1ml Poly-Vi-Sol, 1 pkg of Electrolyte which put in her water and put a crushed 1/2 tablet of Selenium and 1ml Vitamin E Oil in with her food. It has been about two weeks now and we see major improvement already. She is no longer turning her head 180° and appears almost normal. We will continue with the regimen and may add some of these vitamins to the water of the rest of our girls, although there are no apparent problems with them. Thank you for very helpful post, we are most grateful.

That is wonderful! It is so encouraging to nurture a chick back to help. Even though the process can be emotionally draining, the success you feel when that chick is grown and healthy is almost greater than it would have been had she been totally healthy from birth. While we never hope for these opportunities, getting them through illness is a great learning experience. Thank you for all the helpful info!

I have the same problem for the first time, a chick that hatched just a few hours ago. She and a few others are quite late with the hatch - day 24 now. I was wondering, did anybody try to wrap the neck in a thin piece of cloth or some other kind of brace? Just to keep her neck in the right position.

Edit: another one just hatched and seems to have the same problem :( Both are speckled Sussex. I was so looking forward to hatching this breed, but so far I only got 1 healthy one from 9 eggs. Another is still hatching and seems to also have some problems because it's very slow, and yet another seems to be only able to walk on her hunches :(

Has anyone ever seen a frizzle chicken that sometimes its neck is between her legs and she shacking and she gets stuck on her back for a few days then for a week or two she's fine

These posts helped a lot!

My bantam chick, who I called crooked neck, had wry neck. I gave him poly vi sol and lots of attention. Soon the little guy was eating and drinking without help :) we gave him and the rest of the chicks to a small petting zoo nearby (we had a full flock of 7 then and sadly couldn't handle more chickens) . The lady who owns the petting zoo says she can't even recognize crooked neck anymore since he had a fully straight neck. It was definitely worth the effort for the chick so he could live a full and happy life.
