Hey guys, I am new to owning chickens, and I just have a question. My chicken is constantly preening herself, eating and drinking, and coming to the door of the chicken coop to greet me whenever I walk in. She also makes lots of peeping sounds. Are those songs of a healthy chicken? She is a Black Australorp and she is 2 months old.

Mine will go out in the day do their thing and often go get on the roost for a few hours then repeat.

As long as she is eating, drinking, and pooping she is fine. If you only have one chicken you need to get her a buddy. They are social animals and need their flock.

Okay. I can’t get another chicken until July because I want her to get a little bigger, but she likes to roost and does come down to eat and drink a lot. I just put her in the coop yesterday after raising for 2 months. Hopefully she should be okay. I think mine is a hen, put it has 2 little numbs on each leg. Is that normal for all hens, or is she a roo?
