>~* A Howl At Midnight>~* A FORGOTTEN DOGS ROLEPLAY!

Obsidian's ears flattened against his skull. His eyes rolled with automatic submission more so to her rage rather than her tactless declaration, and he scrabbled out of the den in crazed desperation to get away.
Once he was free, his head dropped and hung. He felt eyes on him, but no one moved to offer him even a whisker's twitch of sympathy. They all had their own helpless grief to wallow in. Bitter frustration welled up in his throat like scorching bile, but as he realized he couldn't validate nor find a reason for it, he swallowed it back down. There was nothing anyone could do now- there was so much lost and the pack couldn't collectively numb others' pain when their own was so great.
His sister was gone.
His teeth ground together and he began plodding a pitiful circle. But she promised she'd be back.
For the first time, the placid mutt wanted to lash out at something, anything- somewhere else to heap this urge to blame. Even the sinfully bright and cheery sky suddenly seemed a perfect target for furious slaughter. The forest whirled around him in a maddening array of newborn golds and dying reds, inciting him to ruin all of the Procyon-forsaken false tranquility when everything was just so wrong.
And then it all became still, as though everything -the abstract feelings, the sky, the earth- had simultaneously collapsed and fallen as soundless snow.
Obsidian raised his head and let the exposing sun engulf his face. It was everywhere- embracing torn plants, kissing the washed dirt; nuzzling scars and flushing wounds; creeping into the yawning holes that turned intricate dens useless; but most noticeably making the emptiness beside some dogs so blatantly apparent. It was illuminating every loss into the new normal they'd all have to accept in order to survive.
Promises are made to be broken.
"Alright. Who's on dawn patrol?"
Hollyshadow crept out of her den, her eyes clouded with sorrow."Im sorry.....Im so sorry...."She whispered, choking on her own words.

~

Birch let out a frusterated snarl. She sat back, throwing her head back and letting out a soft howl."Ash, Please.....We need you..."

Birch let out a snarl, staring at the pup. She got up, looming over him."I am your Alpha!"She snarled."You do not disobey me! You go to your den NOW!"Fire gloomed in her eyes.
(Whoa Birch XD)
Greypup rolled onto his back, flattened his ears, tucked his tail, and rolled his eyes back in his head. There was not a poster more submissive. "Please, Alpha," His voice cracked. "She's my Packtor... And one of the last friends I have left. Let me stay. Please. I'll... I'll do a bunch of small animal hunting around the camp... I'll help Breeze and Frost or something to make up for it." He whimpered. "But please let me stay with my friend."

(XD Birch is the most fun character I have to write about XD)

Birch's nostrils flared. She said nothing, only laid down, laying her head gently on Ash's shoulder.

(She's a cool character XD)
"Thank you, Alpha." He said sincerely. Greypup rolled onto his stomach and turned his face back to Ash, but did not raise his head, nor un-tuck his tail, or stop pinning his ears.
His face was emotionless, and his eyes dull.

~Obsidian turned around with a sad smile comprised of empathy, nostalgia, and gentle regret. Saying nothing, he arched his neck over Hollyshadow's to share a collective sorrow, disregarding completely that this gesture was usually one done out of secure affection. "She'd been more of a sister to you," he murmured into her ear, not intending to move away until she wanted him to. "You meant the everything to her."~

~Breeze ducked into the den, her eyes narrowed. "She's still not awake?" Her voice was taught, apparently rid of the sympathy that was so crucial to the empathic portion of a healer's job. But she'd already exhausted so much of herself into as many as she could, and when it had come time for her to meet grief...she had nothing emotional left to give now. They'd just have to be grateful for the skills that could revive the salvageable ~

Hollyshadow nuzzled behind his ear, embracing the kindness and feeling of kinship with the other dog."And she ment everything to me. You, Nighthawk and Squrrielflihgt where the only ones who accepted me, and loosing-,"She inhaled a sharp ragged breath, unable to speak anymore. She just hoped he understood.

~

Birch lifted her head."Not a single movement."She murmured."Did....Did you find-?"

Night trotted through the under growth.
Last night he had again found his mother, but she had not heard his call over the raging storm. Then he had realized: Everyone probably thought he was dead, so he started to go back to River Pack camp, but had lost himself in the storm.
Now he walked into camp, and as he walked in, acted as if he had been there the whole time. He took a quick sweep over the camp to excess the damage from the storm and to see how badly wounded all the warriors were. Few were okay to patrol, hunt, or any of the other pack duties.
As he heard Obsidian call for canines to come patrolling with him, he padded up. "I can help patrol." He said softly.
~
Greypup raised his head to Breeze. "No, she hasn't moved."

(DONT BLAME ME FOR ALWAYS THINKING ITS NIGHT TIME.
IT IS CALLED A HOWL AT MIDNIGHT. MIDNIGHT'S AT NIGHT. AM I RIGHT OR AM I RIGHT :troll:

This is my favorite post. Like. Ever.
I second that :clap :clap :clap

"Alright. Who's on dawn patrol?"

Raksha stood stiffly from where she had been sitting just inside the Hunter's den. Her slow walk to Obsidian made her appear - and feel - moons older than she was, each step sending shivers of pain through her paws. She stood behind the younger dog, waiting to be acknowledged. Please, send me out of here, she thought despairingly.

She inhaled deeply and straightened her posture, forcing any sign of pain from her face. "Obsidian? I can take a couple dogs on a patrol."

"It's okay," he soothed, his tail waving slowly in placated acceptance of it all. This all felt so unreal- maybe he was drugged on the fumes from the yotes' territory, who knew. "We'll get through this together."

As his name was called, Obsidian became sharply aware of the doors that this interaction would hold wide open for the more giddy dogs. Face burning, he hastily backed away from Hollyshadow. "Alright, Raksha, Night, anyone else?" he rambled, busying himself with a circling trot around the trio.~

(River)

Cave laid in her sodden nest, knowing that it wasn't doing her any good yet too tired to make herself stand. A long sigh escaped her, and she shivered.

Voices outside the den eventually boosted her desire to get up, and she stood shakily to her feet, favoring her left foreleg. She gave the short, yet deep gash a few tentative licks, then limped outside on three legs.
She made her way over and sat down beside Raksha, who turned and nodded in greeting. While she sat, waiting, she made the mistake of closing her eyes. Next thing she knew, Raksha was nudging her back to her feet. Crystal had appeared by her side as well.

"You go find a dry spot and get some sleep, kid," Raksha barked gently. "There'll be more patrols." She had a faintly humored, yet sympathetic expression that gave Cave a small window into Raksha's rarely seen soft side. Her golden eyes, that Cave usually found creepy, seemed almost... Motherly.

Reluctantly, she turned to Crystal and allowed herself to be herded to a spot where the sun was beginning to dry the ground. She looked over at her sister. "I..." she began. Her voice caught and her throat tightened. "I..."
