A jealous hen? Is it possible?

I have 3 Cuckoo Marans (1 yr old); 2 hens and a roo. They went through quarantine together, and now live with the main flock (population around 40). All has been well.

Today the rooster mounted a hen from the main flock, and one of "his" hens ran over and started pecking at him. Is she jealous? Is this common?

I have 8 'sister' hens, and when a rooster gets a hold of one of them, one of the other hens will run over like a linebacker and *POW*, roosterBgone. But they don't react this way when the roos get other unrelated hens.

I'm guessing they know who they 'belong' to, and will act accordingly. Yours sound like they know who they 'belong' to, but the rooster is in the dark. [IMG]

    I agree. Typical male.

She knows who he belongs to. Obviously, he never received the memo. So yeah, I guess it could be called "jealousy".
