A Journey Through a Different Way - Funny Story Pg. 69

Happy Birthday, Monique! I recently celebrated my ffff.....ffffffiiiiii.....ffffiiiiiffff.... well, darn. I STILL can't say it. At any rate, I celebrated the same age as you are now celebrating. It is the only birthday of my life that really bothered me. Not so much the birthday, but the things that happen to a ffff..ffffiiiffff...fffffiiiiiiffffftttt.... well an old body that are out of my control. It was a rough one - but I've come to appreciate this change of life (quite literally) - and the freedom that comes with it. And, like you, I began a new journey in my life only a few years ago. I'm living and learning every day. And I love every second of it.

And even though I never met Ruth, I miss her too.

Thank you for sharing your journey. We all feel the joy, sorrow, love, and pain with you - and we all learn from every step of the journey you share

I wish you the best clucking birthday ever!

Ya'll are so sweet. Some of you have followed this thread from the very beginning.

I really do enjoy the garden so much. Yesterday my husband bought me a picnic table as a 50th birthday gift. I had been mentioning I wanted one in my garden so when the vegetables and watermelons and cantalopes start coming in, I can just sit right there and eat them. Can't wait to bust a ripe watermelon open right there on the picnic table and grab the salt and eat it without knife or fork or plate like when I was a little girl. The garden is my peaceful place, none of the 6 dogs are allowed in there. It's the only place on the farm where nothing (other than bugs) are crawling on me demanding attention. However, here in the deep South, it will soon be 100+ degrees with 100% humidity so time in the garden will be toasty - oh, wait, it's that hot and humid already - went from 20 to 80 one day and then steadily up from there.

I planted all heirloom seeds - bought most from Baker Creek Seeds www.rareseeds.com and corn that has not been genetically modified.

Yesterday, when my grown kids and family were all here and standing around talking about this "transformation" I've gone through - my daughter looked at me and said "Never in a million years would I have thought you would cut off your long black hair and let the gray grow out, while buying a farm and raising chickens, and shoveling poop and growing a garden.....never in a million years."

I am letting my gray grow out so I've cut my hair really short and keep cutting it every two weeks. Once all the artificial color is out, I may let the hair grow but I'm liking it short. It's so hot now and short hair is so much easier to work with. But my kids say I look like someone's grandmother and are begging me to "stop this craziness". Same daughter said "What's next, wearing hemp and getting a pig?" I said, "Probably, give me time".

But same group of kids and their spouses all brought their guns and fishing poles so the guys could all shoot skeet (we have a skeet thrower) and fish and they are all wanting to know when we will be getting the horses.

Amazing where life's journeys can take you, isn't it?

Hi Beefy - so good to hear from you. I was just telling my family about you this weekend. We got on the topic of BYC and I mentioned that you used to write all the funny theories on my mystery egg thread. When I need a chuckle, I go read those. They still give me a good laugh. I also told them you were the one that helped expose the "Triplets" thread as a phony. I tell you, I had my whole family praying over that "family" so I had to tell them it was all made up and you were the one that played Sherlock Holmes.

And nope, don't need no big ole cow. I milk my goat every morning and I get my Mason jar of milk and that's enough for me.

not a dairy cow of course--a beef cow. you could get a nice pair of semi-retired cows before they go to live at the McDonald's Retirement Villa. just think of all the grass they could mow! and watching cows graze is very therapeutic. not to mention all the cow pies for the garden and the chickens to scratch around in!

Yep, and my luck would be like the goat I got and first thing it did was break its leg so for the next few months I had to take it back and forth to vet, riding in my lap, in my car. DH keeps saying he wants cows and I've told him when he starts helping out around here and feeding and tending to and watering some of the animals we already have, he can get cows but as long as everything is my responsibility, nope, no cows - horses, yes, but no cows.

Happy Birthday Monique!!

I'm not too far behind you, just turned 40 this year.

It was such a pleasure to meet you & your DH.One day I know we'd love to come back for another visit. It was my first time to meet anyone from BYC or online for that matter.

You both are so blessed & have a beautiful home. You should be so proud of what yall have done there so far. It's lots of work, but so worth it.

Happy Birthday, Monique!
You made me laugh about cutting your hair, my best friend here turned fifty before me and she now has her hubby shave her head every two weeks! I don't think she'll ever go back to letting her hair grow! Now, he shaves his head, too;) Wishing you many more birthdays to enjoy, Cheryl

but....

cows dont get out as much as goats.
and they arent as high maintenance as horsies.

i'm sure hubby would feed them and water them and clean up after them and give them baths and take them for a walk and take real good care of them and stuff...

maybe just one cow?
