A little freaked out about this WARNING...

I think it was Buff Hooligan who had a chook steal her diamond earring -- she had to chase the thief down to retrieve it! I try to keep the girls away from my face, but they sure like red pedicures, so I have to remember to wear proper shoes...

I don't think they'll jump up and go for your eyes, but.... let me tell you what happened last weekend.

My 8 year old son is visually impaired. He's blind in one eye, and has 20/100 vision in the other eye.

All of our chickens were laying around, and one looked like (to him) that it wasn't moving at all. He slowly walked up, and got closer and closer to the hen. He crouched down and got maybe a foot away, looking to see if the hen was breathing or not.

It was. And promptly got up and pecked him in his (good) eye!

Although it's a little scary, we all had a good laugh at that, and he learned his lesson well!

They won't just attack your eyeballs, or anything else, on purpose. They peck things out of curiosity. And, you can normally see it about to happen. They get this "Oooo, shiny" look come about them, and then they look at it for second, and the peck.

DH found out how protective a roo can be. He bent into the brooder last night to get the chick in there for a photo op. and the roo attacked him TWICE

My chickies go for my new nose ring , that kinda hurts and I actually had a 3 or so week old peck my son in the eye but my son was like Eye ball to eye ball with him and the chick was like oooohhh shiney. No evil chicken there just curious about this big shiney thing infront of his face , my son was not amused though
