A moment of mourning for the passing of an era

Whoa, I was wrong. She DID mean the post was crap. Hey, I thought there was an auto edit on the word crap...

Crap

Crap

Crap crap crap!

My father was a high school teacher for years. Now he's a college professor. He's a much happier individual now.

Juding by the post you edited, I'd say you are in serious danger of burnout. Good thing it's almost time for summer vacation, I think you could use one!

I am not in any danger of burnout as a teacher, the burnout I am in danger of is dealing with ignorance. If you'll notice I'm not upset with being a teacher,,, it's the parents and the rules we have no control over.

We all loved the home-made popcorn balls the woman down the street made each Halloween. I remember when handing out that sort of trick or treat became a NO NO. Very sad state of the human condition.

I don't want to hijack a thread or be insulting myself, but yes, it was meant as an insult. The meaning behind being that we mean and greedy teachers won't let the kids have it but we'll stuff our fat faces with the ill-gotten gains. The rules are due to allergies and law suits that parents are just looking for a reason to bring against the schools. We are lucky, we can have homemade goodies here, we don't have to do the store bought thing unless it is a goodie sale then it has to be store bought.

I apologize to the OP, she didn't mean anything ugly when she made the post, but I have made the decision to stand up and defend myself and my fellow teachers because I'm sick and tired of all the fry the teachers threads going on right now. You need to look at your homes, and quit blaming the schools and teachers for all of your troubles.

If needed, I'll be happy to leave BYC, not happy to lose good friends I've made, but I'm tired of being maligned.

VERY WELL SAID!
The problem is that decent people have no idea of how many threats schools get from litigious parents who want to try to throw their weight around or use threats to get their way or defend their or their child's behavior. Some just use any excuse to bring suit hoping to get a cash settlement.
What the decent parents don't realize is that manipulative self-serving parents affect the additional rules and regulations that restrict their own child's freedoms.

Ok guys the full moon is over.... Why is everyone taking an innocent post and making it all about blaming teachers? I really did not see any accusing statement in the OPs original post, just an observance of how something have changed since we (or some of us) were kids. Take it easy, relax, no one here is blaming the teachers for this, it is just another thing we as a society have to deal with.

I have a niece who is a teacher and another who is the principal of an elementary school. (sisters)..

I hear the teacher's side of every issue, believe me.. and I know that they think things like "cupcakes" is , what word should I use, how about stupid.

although cupcakes are not banned in our schools yet.. thanks for living is a "backwards" state..
go cheeseheads !!

and I do know what goes on in the teachers' lounge.. so lighten up and laugh at yourself, everyone else is...

You see many of us who aren't teachers darn well know what goes on in the lounge as well as the classroom. And we really don't need an educator to educate us about it. The original post was a rant on the rule not the teacher so the teachers don't need to have hurt feeling or think they have to jump up on a soap box and ring their bells.

This rule not only affects schools but nursing homes as well, in Illinois. My friend is a NH administrator and it's against the "law" to bring in anything edible that doesnt have a food label on it. So if a patient becomes ill, the source can be tracked and ingredients looked at. this also includes garden produce that the seniors all love, can't be brought in from home. Sad , sad, sad.
