Hey Ya'll,
My husband and I purchased 25 chicks a couple weeks ago. They are White Leg Horns.
I managed to get attached to one chick whom I call Ethel. Friends are saying she is a he and to change his name to Elliott (based on the comb). At this stage of the raising, I am not too worried about gender and just want to enjoying watching them grow and them give some away.
We do plan to keep some layers for ourselves and I hope to 'gather' some much needed advice and help from all you folks.

Hello and welcome aboard!! Darn those little balls of fluff...somehow they can really worm their way into our hearts! Especially little cockerels! We had never had any males, but when we decided to hatch our own we got quite a few! And I never knew how outgoing and friendly they could be!!
I really hope you enjoy getting to know the folks here - there are some very knowledgeable chicken owners!!

Ethel is a CUTIE!!!! Welcome, welcome to BYC family. Guaranteed someone will be able to tell you if its a cockerel or a pullet (maybe not at this stage, but soon). There is laughter, tears, people talking over each other, lol, and lots of help when you need it...so pull up a chair to the family table, and join the conversation....coffee is brewing in the kitchen! So glad you and Ethel joined us! :frow
 
Well Ethel is 6-8 weeks old please post photos at "what breed or gender is this," they should be able to tell by then.

I love that name, if Ethel decides to switch genders - I'd still call him Ethel, it would serve him right. :lau
