Greetings and good tidings to everyone here!
I wanted to firstly before introductions thank all those who have shared so much valuable information on this site, without which I would not have raised my chickens nearly as well as I have (let alone the confidence it gave me in the idea of owning chickens). I truly could not have done it without the experience found here.
🙏

And with that said, hello. My name is Setsurin Seiso (my dharma name), a Zen Buddhist monk of the Soto lineage, and a proud keeper of four new and beautiful birds.

This is my first time with caring and owning chickens in my life and it has been an immensely rewarding experience. Already I have learned so much just through trial and error, and feel all the more prepared to handle future chickens as well. I first received my current roost of birds in late September.

Received via day old shipping from the Cackle Hatchery site in a set of hijinks with the courier that could have ended poorly for one of these strong birds. My four gals (maybe, I suspect 2 cockerels among them) have reached four and a half weeks of age and I'm so very proud of them.

Here's an introduction of each of them, with a baby picture to accompany their up to date pictures.

Here's Micolash, a shy but also extremely brave and outgoing little climber. (Silver Laced Wyandotte)
Is quite the shoulder stander. (cockerel suspect #1)

This is Ebrietas, the all around good chicken, another star. (Light Brahman)
balance of slightly brave, slightly cuddly, and only slightly problem causing

Kos, or as some say Kosm, is one of my star birds. (Dominique)
The friendliest and cuddliest, also incredibly unafraid to peck your eyes if given the chance.

Finally but in no way least, Paarl, a beautiful bird who is unable to plan long term. (Light Brahman)
An incredibly friendly bird who also when escaped into the cats part of the house chose to run in a circle full speed instead of letting me get her back to safety like a clever little chicken. (cockerel suspect #2)

Though they aren't fully backyard yet (my sleep schedule is desperately ready for them to be), I have found their general warmth and friendliness to be incredibly rewarding. I've certainly raised some coddled and cuddly birds, but they have been a bit hectic with the floor since they've grown from their adorable puff ball stage some. My absolute favorite part of them though I would have to say is how warm they are when they roost on me, and the gentle vibrations of their chicken purrs.

I have found many hobbies and crafts to help bring joy to my day to day. I'm an avid gardener (off and on due to having to move frequently), and pet owner. Along with gardening I have recently taken up bonsai tree growing which has been immensely rewarding. I also knit, crotchet, cook, read, and do a whole variety of artistic practices: writing, scripting, animation, painting, woodcarving, sketching. As well I have a deep love of camping, hiking, and such when I am not isolating. I one day hope to keep up with journaling.

These chickens are not the first animal addition to my family. I am also the owner of 3 beautiful cats, Pita, Sadie, and Gremlin the youngest. As well I care for 3 feral cats that I have grown quite close with, Small Head, Brave One, and Squirt. Unfortunately Brave One is pregnant at a very young age and her health is something weighing on my mind.

My occupation is a rare one to find in the US I have found, I am a Buddhist Monk. Which means I spend my time in community work, caring for those close to me and those not, meditation, and begging. I one day plan to have a very humble etsy with some Buddhist crafts and offerings for sale to act as a small donation income to help keep me and my family fed, though I try to keep to deep from the world of money when I can due to my religious and social principles.
