I bought six peepers Easter weekend. I've had them in a tote in my bathtub with the heat lamp on them. Now, I am building a run for them with a small roofed area and I am reinforcing the entire thing, top bottom and sides with rabbit wire and chicken wire. I live in the woods and we have both opossums and raccoons, the raccoons weigh in at 65 pounds and up! I'll try to post pictures as soon as I figure out how. I've eliminated most of the raccoons so hopefully the chicks will be safe in the super reinforced enclosure.

Welcome to BYC! My suggestion is to use 1/4 inch hardware cloth (very strong mesh wire) instead of chicken wire which won't keep out the predators. Good luck to you.

Welcome to BYC!

Congrats on your new babies! Yes, chicken wire can be chewed and ripped apart by coons. So please use hardware cloth on all exterior areas of runs and coops. 1/2 is fine.

Have you stopped by our learning center yet here on BYC? Lots of great articles on all the aspects of keeping poultry...

Enjoy your new chicks and welcome to our flock!

Update on my peeps! They are in their new home and happy, growing fast. Mother's day, one of the peeps cackled like a chicken! I've noticed a lot of spiders on the house, the chicken house. Is there something I should do for this? I think I've shot every racoon in the county! :-)
I will try to upload pics!

My peepers heard thunder for the first time today. They got real quiet. I went out to check on them and to pet them, they all came over to me looking at me like "what was that?". They are fine and almost full grown! :)
