A one minute Rant.....

Well....I guess you did rant.
Please understand that this is how many people think - or rather, fail to think.
We can be a part of this society and help others, or we can choose to let it eat us up and have it destroy our own lives....or we can retreat and avoid it altogether.

As a teacher, I find myself in all three roles at any given time.
When I see someone - again - fail to demonstrate an understanding of "their", "they're" and "there", I consider the circumstances. Does it matter to me? To that person?

I try not to judge others, however. I have no idea about their background. I might be inclined to think of someone who mistakes "there" for "their" as being stupid, and yet I am modest enough to know that I don't know the whole picture.

Many people come on here to learn...to share experiences....to make connections.

Let those who are indeed more experienced be kind enough to either exercise restraint in their criticisms or withhold comment from the thread altogether.

Sometimes I become blunt when I comnent on threads, I don't like to sugar coat anything when it comes to the lives of animals.

Some days I have to put my phone away and not come on here because some people just get right under my skin.

I researched for over a year before I even got into chickens and ducks. I feel like it is the owners obligation to do so since they're dealing with a living animal. It scares me that people buy animals and have no clue anything about them.

I think that people like you NEED to comment on threads that have the wrong information on them. This will make the community better!

Thanks for posting this. I had a vent thread the other day and it made me feel better getting it all out!

When my husband decided that WE wanted chickens, I began reading and researching.
Six months later we bought 6 pullets. He had built a seemingly, predator proof run.
We have lost a few to hawks and a few to our own dogs when they flew over the chicken yard fence. But so far, we haven't had anything except snakes get into our runs.
I spend a small fortune on my birds day to day care, as well as expanded housing and additional runs. We have struggled with lice, mites, reproductive issues, and bumble foot.
I'm an avid reader and researcher, but I still ask some ridiculous questions on occasion, usually dealing with my own denial ("this just cannot be a cockrell! I refuse to believe that my favorite girl is crowing!" ) Occasionally, I go back and read my own posts. It's humbling, I have trouble coming to terms with my own ignorance. I've been known to post before proof reading too!
I bite my sarcastic tongue, slap my venomous typing fingers, and close the app sometimes because I see people putting their animals in danger. I try to care for my own and not get too caught up in what I cannot change.
Without BYC and all of you, I'm certain that we wouldn't have the two dozen chickens that we have now. I appreciate all of the knowledge that I have gained here.
@boskelli1571 can you post a link to your blog? Thanks in advance.
@50-45-1 good rant! Now let's talk about those people who don't put their signals on until after they hit their brakes!

I was very fortunate to have had my Grandpa Shook and my Dad to show me the ins and outs of raising chickens. One must realize that not everyone has that opportunity and I have attempted to pay forward that knowledge over the past 50 years or so. Fortunately, I now have a nephew and great nephew that appear to want to carry on the family tradition of raising chickens. I bought them 5 started pullets back in the Spring and they are doing very well with them. As for the comments in this thread, I too get frustrated with a lot of the things I witness on a daily basis. For me most things in life have always boiled down to common sense and unfortunately it is severely lacking in today's society.
