My brother got them from a farm near his house. It was an Easter gift for my kids. So we took them home did the basic research, bought a coop and are now proud chicken owners. My husband is building a nice enclosed run for them. So this is ALL new to us...

There is absolutely no doubt that one is a roo too. Look at the long thin hackle and saddle feathers... only male birds get those.

you can order some started pullets online, or you can look into local poultry swaps,

I think I will stick with just the two hens. I don't want to go over my head with introducing new birds etc...
Do you think two hens are enough company for each other?

probably, but the recommended number of hens per family is the number of people in your house plus 2
and if you do get started pullets you can get as few as 1
and being started they are sure that they are pullets
