A scary thing happened to me (and a warning)

As a mechanically minded person...
Most CC have an On/Off feature, unless you turn it off, breaking puts it in "coast" modhttp://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewforum.php?id=7e, as you put on the gas it puts in in accelerate mode.. which it did to get you back up to your previous cruising speed.

This is Operator error, You HAVE to push a button or flick the knob a certain way to ACTIVATE the Cruise control, if You don't de-activate it, then it will stay active unless you turn off the vehicle, or put it in stop as if you were stopping at a store.
This is not a vehicle recall thing. Reading the owner's manual tells the owner how to properly turn ALL the controls on and off.
I am sorry you were scared, applying the brakes would have stopped the acceleration right on the spot, IF it didn't.. then yes you have an issue with a stuck throttle thru the CC.. ANd you need to have it looked at, disconnecting the CC may help solve the problem but you should have your throttle cable/linkage looked at.

I hope this helps
Carol

I have used that feature for two years. I had turned it off. I had even slowed down for traffic and the oncoming exit. It (the vehicle) reved itself up. After I turned it off and let if sit a minute, I turned it back on. Reved right up to 4,ooo rpm. I shut it off an just got out to call work, my parents and then the tow company.

Thanks for the additional info. I'll see about having that checked as well.

I had a similar problem with my hemi truck, we came to a stop (full traffic 4 lane intersection) but the truck didn't want to.. I was practically standing on the break pedel....... I figured out it was the floor mat that got wedged up under the accelerator.

Glad you're ok from your experience.

Did you get the brake recall notice in the mail for the Jeep Liberty, Wrangler, and Ram? I don't know if your model was recalled, but check into that for sure. So glad you are ok!!!

Good advice. You need to report this, because there is probably going to be a massive recall. So glad you are ok. I do use mine CC but was just talking about it at the office yesterday about highway hypnosis and I think CC impacts that. I like to feel I am in control, so never use it unless its interstate anyway, but this is sure food for thought.

The solution is absolutely NOT to have it disconnected as the problem could actually be elsewhere and cause problems later even after cruise disconnected.

Cruise control is a proven way to reduce driver fatigue and error on long drives. Rather than get it disconnected, better to get it repaired.

The bolded statement above tells me that it wasn't the CC that was the problem. More like a stuck gas pedal or something of that nature. Neither of my cars (a Jeep and an Envoy) run at 4,000 rpm unless you are tromping on the pedal and giving it a lot of gas. Running either of my vehicles at 70 with the CC on, they don't come anywhere near 4,000 rpm. And, I would think that 4,000 rpm in a Liberty, would be darn close to "red lining", as they don't have that big of an engine.

I would have your mechanic look over EVERYTHING in your car. I agree with the comment that disconnecting the CC is not going to help things, as your problem is most likely elsewhere.

I use CC everytime I drive..
Out here its miles and miles and miles between red lights so its pretty easy to unknowingly pick up speed (those faster paced songs just get me so excited!). Police set out here pretty often so I find that if I just set my CC Im good

Definitely have it checked out.. is it still under warranty? I would also get possible recall information also. Make sure it is safe to drive before you get in it afain.
