A slow, steady wipe-out.

Check with your local animal control. A lot of times they will have traps you can borrow. You may have to put a deposit down, but it is usually refundable when you bring the trap back.

I would divert the money from the trap, to a bunch of 1/4" hardware cloth. If you've lost 43 chickens now, it seems like your coop and run are not secure, or you are still letting them out to free range, despite the losses.

I would get my coop and run stable and protected first, so that at least the chicken is safe in its own home. Then, you can worry about outside time.

When is the predator coming and how is it getting the chickens? Daytime/nightime? from inside the coop or outside? What do the killings look like, disappearances, missing head, crop eaten, only feathers left, etc.?

I can guarantee that if you don't secure that coop and run or if you still let them out to free range, whether or not there is a trap, the predator will keep going for the chickens. Path of least resistance...

I just got a humongous havahart trap-I believe model 1081-bigger than the racoon trap-for $67. One night set-caught the barn cat. Last night switched from cat food (duh) to barbaqued chicken. What I was after was too big for the raccoon sized trap. PS-electric fencing is my recomendation. cheap and easy to install.

if you are going to use cage traps for fox bigger is better a coon size trap is 11 x 12 or so it will need to be bigger for fox, coon do not mind crawling for food most fox will not .sometimes you can catch a stupid pup or one that is starving the one you are after sounds well fed . Here are a set of plans for one

there are a good number of trappers up your way that would jump at the opportunity to trap your fox during trapping season when the pelt is worth something, they are having a convention in August http://www.marylandtrappers.com/events.html you may find a better deal on a trap at the convention I buy quiet a few traps at conventions like this and do not pay store price ever there is a good chance you can find a trapper willing to help at the same time google dog proof trap they work well too coil spring traps are my favorite I often have the fox the next day when using them.
