A soft shelled egg???

All of my hens are laying, so they need to be on layer feed.

No they don't. I won't be feeding layer to my chickens at all, ever. I give them grower/finisher and they have oyster shell offered on the side. This way they can get as much or as little as their specific needs require. Layer feed just has extra calcium and that's it. There's really little benefit to it, if you have OS on offer as well.

I have had a few soft-shelled eggs when my pullets went into lay, it is pretty normal in new layers. Also I feed my girls Gamebird Feed as I also raise and breed quail and it is easier to stick with one feed that works for both than to clutter the house with multiple different bags of feed. :p

I also re-feed my silkies their eggshells and offer oyster shell grit in a bowl, but they much prefer the eggshells.

Just a note- there is such a thing as too little protein... and too much.
Gamebird feed can work but is not very suggested for chickens. It often has 26-30% protein, while chickens need 18-22%.
Not trying to infringe on your input, MageofMist :)

You can feed whatever you like. Some have no problem with layer.

I don’t feed layer because I have roosters and young chicks all the time:oops: chicken math lol

I’d offer oyster shell in a separate dish. Could you get some chicken vitamins with D to add to their water? It seemed to help my OE get hard shells. She laid shell less eggs for 2 weeks and someone on here suggested it. It worked within a few days. Hope she lays some normal eggs for you soon!

The Gamebird feed I have is at 19%, and I have been using it ever since they were chicks up until now. :)
I wouldn't be giving them it if it had 26-30%, as that'd be waaaay too high for them!

Sorry to jump on this thread. I’m new to it all. I just got my hens yesterday and bought layer feed. What kind of feed should I be giving them?
