A Special Treat Today

My SIL volunteers at the Food Bank and sometimes we end up with the perishable extras.

I had to take a quart of institutional frozen eggs out of the freezer to fit some pork butt in it's and had no interest in eating them while we're getting so many backyard eggs so I made the birds a scratch omelet -- with a pumpkin garnish courtesy of a friend who was discarding fall decor (it was painted so I had to peel it).

I'd browned some hamburger so I had a skillet to use with a few stray bits of burger in it too.

Lucky birds! Nice snack for them.

Yesterday I made bone broth. The chickens get the strained out bits of veg when it's done. They love it!

They've been spoiled this week because I made turkey soup from the last of the Thanksgiving carcass materials over the weekend.

Yup, they're getting spoiled here too. A neighbor saves vegetable trimmings for them, and had a bunch. So they had an entire salad on top of their mash today.

There was a LOT of strained out veg from the broth; they'll get that rationed out over several weeks. Like when I find it in the freezer and wonder what this is. I got smart after the first time I did that and threw it out, though. I write FOR CHICKENS on the bag.
