A Tribute to Gator (very picture heavy)

Lot's of chickens I am sure many of my Tervuren have passed :hitI know they are there also

He will love that I am sure! He loved the chickens. Chased them occasionally so I didn’t trust him alone when they free ranged but I don’t think he would ever actually hurt them. And he loved protecting them. He loved to just go lay right next to the run. And if there was a threat, sometimes my dad would let him out at night and he would just lay out there and refuse to come in until he was satisfied it was gone, sometimes an hour later. He took good care of them even though we didn’t even get them until he was 3. And aw I am sorry for your losses too! :hit :hugs

Sorry for your loss. :hugs He looks like he lived a wonderful life.

I remember Gator from earlier threads, because I thought you had an alligator on the loose!

Thank you! I like to think he did. He started to struggle and have a lot of issues the last year and a half and just wasn’t himself and then the past month or so he really took a turn for the worse and we knew it was gonna be time soon. But I like to think up until then he had a good life and even at the very end he still tried to make the best of it. I took him for a final walk through our woods and we took him on a final drive before his vet appointment. Stopped at McDonald’s and he gulped down a plain cheeseburger whole which was especially impressive considering he really hasn’t eaten anything lately and he has been having troubles with his jaw, but he managed to gulp down one last cheeseburger lol then we drove him around his favorite neighborhoods/roads, stopped at a field where lots of dogs go and let him sniff, didn’t let him out cause it would be too hard to get him back in, but he perked up at the scent of other dogs and wild animals, drove him by my brother’s house and through his neighborhood, drove him to the boat ramp and he stood up, stuck his head out the window, and took in the salty marsh/ocean air one more time. So I think he had a good last day.

Oh and lots of people thought that at first LOL

I could cry reading this. You made a tough call but the right one. Dogs are man's or woman's best friend! And lab's win hands down! Do you have any more dogs?

Gator is flying high with the angels tonight. He was such a good boy; so sweet and loving yet protective of the family, property, and the chickens if need be. He was always quick to inform us if something was bothering the chickens or if something was outside that shouldn’t be and prevented many predator attacks on the chickens. In addition to being an excellent watch dog and loving companion, he was also incredibly smart. He learned so fast and I was able to teach him so much. He did have a bit of an independent streak but he was still so eager to learn and because of his intelligence, learned rapidly. Often times you only had to show him something once or twice and he would know it. Because of his intelligence, he also loved to “talk” with you. He was very sassy and often times when told “no” or “you can’t go”, he would playfully snap at the air and scoot backwards. Telling him he couldn’t go somewhere seemed to particularly upset him and he would get very offended as he loved car rides. He also loved to negotiate with you and think everything through before doing anything. Very intelligent dog. You could almost swear he was human at times. He was also ridiculously goofy, silly, and fun loving. I will miss his sweet, goofy self. Fly high, my sweet boy. I hope you are running free with Bailey now.

What a sweet dog. I’m so very sorry for this tremendous loss.

Wow... what a beautiful boy. I love all the photos. So very sorry for your loss. I lost my chocolate lab at 15 and my pit 6 days later. I know the heartbreak and void a loved pet can make. Share all you need to. I can tell he was loved and very happy! So great to see
