So sorry. I had the opportunity to get some birds from a flock owner from craigs list but remembered southernbelles post and decided against it. I could have quarantined them but feel for right now til I have a separate facilities, to forget it. Dh is planning on building a barn for the chickens next year so we can separate our breeds so no outside chickens for now here.

PC, There's nothing I can say that hasn't been said. Thank you for your video. I know it will help prevent this in someone else flock. So sorry for your loss.

Purple, you did an excellent thing by making that video. You're a strong man, and are teaching all of us so much in a very vivid way.

Peace to you.

PC I'm so sorry for your loss.

Try not to beat yourself up, you're only human and we all make mistakes.
I for one am very glad you made the video, even though I was crying while watching it.
I have Silkie eggs (free to you) if you want them to help rebuild your flock.

Thank you for that important message. It may not feel like a big deal when you bring that new bird into your flock, but you really helped drive home the fact that it is.

Powerful videos.

PC first and foremost I am sorry for your loss ..

second...I am showing this video to my DH tonight!!!

we have 4 chickens that we bought at a chicken auction in march that are still in my dining room in quarantine they can come out to play at the end of the month. DH is not happy about the crowing rooster at 5am but o well not my problem i dont hear him crowing..lol

DH wonders why i have a shallow pan and a diluted bleach jug sitting on the front porch and when i have people over that have their own barns i will make them disinfect their shoes. If they want to hold one of my birds i have mechanic type lab coats that i will ask them to wear (i tell them so they wont get poop on their clothes (opps lil white lie

)when we go to the zoo our shoes get disinfected after...

and because of all this i am called the crazy chicken lady.

I am waiting for my easter eggers until my auction birds are out of the quarantine pen. even though they are coming from a friend they still get the 90 day stay and the quarantine hilton (aka..my dining room)

thanks for posting this

I haven't read this entire thread, so forgive me if this has already been asked and answered, but if your flock is infected and some of the birds don't look or act sick, could you not just cull the obviously sick ones and let the others ones continue to live? You wouldn't want to add to the flock until all the sick birds have died, of course, but do you have to cull all the birds? Are eggs from MG birds bad for human consumption? Just curious.
