If 'he' is a 'he' , you will not have to wait long to find out. 'He'' will crow if it is a 'he'. If you already have chickens, do not put this one with them. Could be diseased or a carrier of a disease.

Exactly - you need to be careful since you don't know where he came from. And I'm pretty darn sure that he is a HE!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!

If you don't "intend" to raise chickens, but you don't mind this guy hanging around, he could be a fun pet! Good luck and have fun!

I agree with the other commenters; chickens are flock creatures and aren't happy unless they're with others. It's just their instinct. That was probably why this chicken was flapping at your window the other night. It wasn't cold, it was lonely.

Boy, that is one beautiful bird! But, it does look like a roo.

If ordinances say you can't have a rooster, don't get too attached.

But, consider this your gateway into chicken ownership, and join us.... join us.... join us....(Did it work? Are you hypnotized? Did you buy chickens?) They are easy, fun, pets who provide breakfast. And, you get to chat with other lovely chicken owners. (That would be US!

Still no crowing. I read somewhere that you could tell for sure by looking at their legs or something? Just what I need is to try to pin this guy down, "Here you! Let me see your legs!!" right.

So. yes, if it is a roo, we can't keep him. It's not legal here. However, yes, I've considered that if we can't keep him I might get some hens.

When will he crow? He's been here for two sunrises!

Of course if he never crows, I guess I can keep him, presumably that's the reason for the ordinance, the crowing is LOUD. There was a rooster a few blocks from here several years ago and we could hear him crowing often.

Maybe I could make him a tiny muzzle.

I dont know the sex of this bird, but it is beautiful! I have enjoyed reading this thread. BYC'rs are great people and have been very helpful to me in my new chicken ownership.
Good luck and I hope you keep him/her.
