Abandoned duck egg. Need help asap

@lilnuggets maybe you can get a photo that shows the membrane and the color it is?

At this point is it okay to take it out of the incubator to get a picture? It was suggested that taking it out is an issue due to humidity... from what I can see the membrane looks white

So possibly not even twelve hours ago yet, and definitely not 24 hours ago? Sometimes they kind of punch around and enlarge the pip without actually being trying to zip.

It can breathe and it hasn't been trying to hatch for more than 15 hours max, so for now you're safe to not assist if you don't feel comfortable and see if it will hatch on its own. It won't die at this point if you don't assist right away.

You could open the end of the air cell without hurting it, if you wanted to, but you would also have to be ready to apply coconut oil or bacitracin to the membrane if it's not ready to hatch and then monitor it to reapply as needed. Ducks are really slow hatchers and some take up to 48 hours from the time of the external pip to actually zip and hatch.

Then I definitely wouldn't be panicking That's not long ago at all. I usually won't even think of starting an assist until it's been 24 hours minimum. They can take a long time to get everything absorbed.

You don't want to take it out of your 'incubator' until it has hatched or you are ready to assist. The sudden change in humidity can cause the membrane to shrink wrap the duckling. If that happens it gets stuck and can no longer turn in the egg to finish zipping.

I think you are doing great and agree that there is no need to intervene at this point.

So the duckling is still making good progress it's hard to tell from this picture but there is a decent size chunk of egg that is pushed up the duck even managed to stick it's beak out all of of the way. So I am going to leave it be until I have time to dedicate to assist if needed. Thanks for all the imput I will check back in a few hours and may need more advice.

Ok so checking back it looks like it has stalled and I am going to try and assist. I'm thinking just starting with opening up the air pocket more first and tips before I start?
