Abandoned ducklings.. not again..

I've only been here for like 30 minutes today, in that time there have been about a dozen attempts on the ducklings life by seagulls, one of which a seagull came close and the duckling actually started following the seagull, I think that one definitely would've ended in the little ones demise if I was not here. I would feel so bad taking him from his mom but honestly I'm really considering it because mom won't be able to tell the difference if I take it or if a seagull does, but the ducklings life could be saved
Wow, I had no idea that seagulls were so brutal to ducklings. It is a very hard position for those of us who adore ducks.

There are way more seagulls than there should be at this park because people feed them loaves of bread and boxes of cereal just like they do to the ducks. So on cold days like the past couple no one comes to feed the seagulls so they are extra hungry and vicious

Oh, that makes sense. Ugh.

I want to save it so bad 😭😭 at this point I am 95% sure if I leave and come back tomorrow it will be no more duckling. I just don't know if I have it in me to straight up take a duckling from its mom.. I wish she would fly away for a bit again
You are probably right, with how many were already taken in such a short time the chances are very high that this one will be, too.

Personally I would either decide to take it, or leave and not come back tomorrow to check. You'll have to do what you can live with.

You do have your current ducks to think about. I always prioritize them. What if the duckling is a boy and mates them agressively? Will you rehome him?

I would have to rehome him anyway because my town has a limit if 4 and I already have 4

Gotcha, that would be hard to do after raising him from a baby. But maybe better than letting a predator get him. It is a very hard choice. :hugs
I only know one other person in my area with poultry she has a lot of chickens I sent her a message asking if she wants him we will see what she says. My Penguin has been pretty broody lately so I wonder if she could raise him for me, that would make it a lot easier when it comes time to rehome. I would love to find someone local who currently has some ducklings that he could join.
