About the automatic egg turner someone told e that when you put the eggs in the turner you put the large end up and small end down. Is this true ? Im so unsure I am getting 12 buff orpington eggs saturday. Will buff orpington egg fit in large egg cups in the turner?. I would like it if anyone couldanswer thank you all.

Yup, thats right! Large end up, small end down. They should fit fine in a large turner. Buff Orps lay pretty large eggs. Good luck on the hatch...and if they are coming in the mail, remember to let them settle for 24 hrs...before putting them in.

Yes'm thats where there coming from im in a huffy right now looking for some plans for a coop for 10-15 chickens if you happen to have some post em.

silkelovr...there are some awesome plans in the coop design section with plans to buid a coop for 10-15 chickens. I have 2 flocks right now ( planning on merging them today actually) one is 10 birds and one is 14 birds...one of the coops i built which is 8x6 ( 4 feet tall) for the 10 bird flock--> the whole coop cost me around $80 to make. The other flock has a coop i actually bought with a large run I was purchasing. It is 10x6 and I need to expand it a little but that flock are all just 5 weekers at the moment so its doing the job for now.

I can give you a quick list of stuff to buy if you want to have a go at my coop...do you plan on the coop having an attached run or the run being part of the coop eg underneath of it? ( BTW i got my coop design off the coop section here...modified very slightly)

Dou you still have the plans for the coop you made for around 80$, If not then where on the site is there plans for a coop 10-15 chickens Cause I can't seem to find them do you think you cant put the link. Thanks I need anything I can take cause I cant find coop plans list would be great maybe even pics of the coop what I need evrything!

ok the basic coop will need:
7 sheets of CHEAP chipped plywood ( <$6 per sheet at home depot) *** This is not water proof and needs to be sealed before it is exposed to the rain...i did this last and had a tin of sealant at home but it only costs about $10/tin of sealant anyways.
11 x 8foot lengths of 4x2 ( approx \\$2.50 per length
1 x 4x4 ( 8 foot length) ( i actually had several of these lying around but the cost about $6 each if you need to buy one.
Box of galvanised nails ( 2 inches long)=>$3
Box of roofing tiles ( i had these but I believe they are about $14/box--> 1 box will do the roof of this coop just. If you made any mistakes you would need a second pack of them...i had several left over from our house re roofing.
4 hinges ( cost $3 per pack of 2)
2 latches (cost $1.50 each)

So the cost here is over $80 but as I said i had some of the stuff i needed which saved me maybe 20 bucks or so. ( nails/sealant/roof tiles/4x4)

The basic design is simple.
The back wall of the coop is a full 4x8foot sheet of your plywood.
The front wall is a full 8foot sheet with 1 foot taken off the "height of it to make it an 8x3foot sheet.
This gives a drop of 1 foot from the back to the front of the coop for the snow/rain to fall off. Feel free to make the front higher than the back if you wanted, depending on the orientation of your coop.
The side walls are 6 foot long ( chop 2 feet off 2 standard length plywood sheets) with one end being 4 foor high and the other end being 3 foot high.
The "frame of the coop was made with 4x2. I only have 2 roof "rafters"

At the end for fun I added in a window ( just cut a 20inch square out of one short side and put a piece of plexiglass in it. The other short side has a fold down door to open to get to the 6 nesting boxes which I made for the birds.
The front has a 3foot high x 2.5 foot wide door into which I can get to clean.

oh i forgot ...for ventilation along the top of the back wall (high side) I drilled maybe 30 x 1.5inch holes in the plywood. These I put all within a grid that can be easily covered by a swing up piece of plywood to keep the cold out in the winter months.
The coop has a solid plywood floor for half the floor and wire mesh for the other half. Then the whole coop is mounted on 6x16inch long pieces of 4x4 to keep it off the ground. I have a 16x16 run attached to the front of the coop which I made out of thick fencing mesh which I tested with my 100lb dog who couldnt get out so i figure not much is getting in. I buried 12inches of the fencing in the ground with sheet metal outside that also buried. I then put more fencing laying flat around the outside of the run and buried it with large rocks...any predator that gets in there will have earned his/her meal! Over the top of my run I have a tarp to keep the rain/sun out. I have a flood light over the whole setup at night to further discourage predators.

the coop belongs to "dumblond" on that thread. Theirs is differnt in that they put siding on the coop and a flash window ( both expensive if you dont already have them)

scroll down to the bottom of page 1...they have several pics of the same coop on there...persons name is dumblond. I will try and get some pics of my coop up today for you. It is basic and not fancy at all but it works great and holds the birds warm and safe.
