About to set eggs...Please advize on humidity...

Kelley, I think what you were seeing with the high humidity was the sudden rush when you put water in the bator. When you first fill the water troughs the hygrometer reads high until it has time to adjust and some of the excess water starts to evaporate. As time goes on, it will slowly go down to the actual reading and as more evaporation occurs, it will go even lower. I like to keep my humidity around 50% for the first 18 days and then to 65-70 for hatch. Good luck with your hatch.

My little ones woke me up at 6:30... "Mama, it's daytime...time to get up."! So at 6:30, it had dropped to 30%. (I put the plug back in a bit more firmly last night too) So around 7:30, I added the 1/4 cup of water that Kim recommended. I'm around 38-39% right now. Should I try to add a bit more water to get it up above 40%?
Or do you all think it's okay as is? I'm so tempted to put these eggs in here....

One more question, as the weather warms up here (should be 70's today and the inside of our house is 66 right now) will that make the humidity fluctuate?

Yes, add another 1/4 cup and set the eggs. Then walk away for a few hours. Don't make any adjustments when you first set the eggs, as they will take time to come up to temp and it will "appear" to be too low temp. Ignore it until it readjusts.

If anything a warm up in your house, could alter incubator temps. Keep an eye on that, especially if the room has a tendency to go up or down easily. But again, don't make any changes initially as the bator needs time to adjust to the cool eggs going in.

I don't know if this is right or not, because it is my first hatch to, so I guess we'll live and learn. But, I kinda played around with the amount of water until I got the humidity to stay stable over a period of time. I would probably add a little more water to bring it up, but like I said, I have no experience either.

Our humidity in SC is always high, so putting in the recommended amount of water was just too much. I guess we will learn how to tweak our bators as we go...

Sorry,I'm on an archaic laptop and it takes forever to post...edited because my question was already answered!

I'm adding another 1/4 cup, and those beautiful eggs you sent me....and I'm going to go outside!

Thanks everyone!

Kelley- I wouldn't worry about getting the humidity perfect before you set the eggs. When you add the eggs its going to throw off the temp and humidity again anyway. Just set your eggs, give the temp and humidity at least a few hours to regulate and then you can make adjustments. I don't think 10 degrees difference is going to affect your hatch terribly. Just try to keep your humidity under 50 degrees and higher than 30, and I think you will be fine. Your temps should hold steady since you are using a genesis, so consider yourself lucky.

Okay,it's been 4 hrs since I added the extra water and eggs...temp is at 99.3-99.7 and humidity is at 47%...how does that sound?

Kim, I hadn't thought about when the hatch-day would fall...Halloween....what a treat huh?
