About to set eggs...Please advize on humidity...

Oh man, I have had my eggs on my incubator for 10 days. I dont have a way to check the humidity, it was my mothers old Hova-bator with an automatic turner;) it seems to work well, but I also got a little confused about the humidity level and added water today, everything seemed to be going OK before I added the water today (and turned them from big side down to big side up today). This si the first time I have tried to use the bator.

I hope Im not making mistakes. I use a spotlight with aluminum foil over it with a little hole in it to candle my eggs. Mostly I am seeing a blob inside so I guess all is well:/.

First thing I know that you did wrong was setting the eggs big side down. They should have went in the bator big side up from the beginning. The only problem with that now is the chick may have already set itself in position, you will just have to watch it and see what happens. If you are on day 10 you should be able to see veins when you candle. Humidity is important, you really need to get a tester. If it is to low the chick may have problems trying to hatch, and if the humidity is to high the chick could drown trying to hatch.

That's where mine is set. Fluctuates a little, between 42 & 47, but I think those will be okay.

I guess we'll see, huh?

And, Tiffany, thanks for all the help and advice!!

I just checked mine, and with barely any water in it at all, the humidity is 70%!!! I have heard to put a dry paper towel, or something that will absorb the humidity. Maybe cardboard? I don't think I will add water at all until They need to hatch!!

That is good. Just watch it for a little while and see what happens with it. You may have to plug back before you go to bed so that the humidity does not get to low.

try pulling 1 of the vent plugs out just alittle and see what it does. adding the paper towel want hurt either. You can also lift up on 1 corner for just a second or 2 and see if that helps. What day are you on? Where do you have your incubator set up? 70% is high.
