Absolutely devastated. Honey has been killed.

Mine free range every day and I don't "keep an eye" on them. I make the choice to take the risk and let them free range, the way they're meant to live IMHO.

As far as Honey, I'm soooo very sorry for your loss. I heard a hawk hanging around near my house today and worried about my babies. Just know that she had a good life with you and was obviously very much loved

So sorry to hear that you lost Honey in such a horrible way. We put so much into caring for them the best we can, and the shock of losing them is so hard. I've cared for animals all my life, and loosing them suddenly is still a bitter pill. It doesn't seem to matter if it is a cat, dog, bird or what ever we become attached to. Just keep the happy memories of her in your heart & share them with family & friends. It's a way of keeping her sweet spirit around you.

Thank you all so much for your kind words! To some she's "just a chicken" but I knew you'd all understand.
The good news is the rest of my flock doesn't seem to be too badly affected. They gradually all came out of their coop, and all seem like themselves, so luckily I don't have to deal with the rest of my girls all being spooked. Once again thank you all so much, it truly means a lot to me.
